Hi

My 9 month old dh haS come up in terrible nappy rash, not only is his little bum red and sore but the skin has split a bit . This is the first time we have had nappy rash and i think i am going to put it down to teething!
Well - i am sure i heard that you cannot use Sudocreme with cloth nappies, so i have been given a disposable by a friend and but him to bed in that slathered in Sudocreme as i couldn't just leave it.
But - obviously the sposie is a one off and he will be back in cloth tomorrow morning so what can i use for nappy rash on a cloth bummed baby???

Never ever heard that you can't use sudo on cloth bots!!!!

Mad... and i think total rubbish.

He needs a barrier cream in this weather as he will get betty swollocks!

Bepanthen is good or lasinoh is excellent if you use it for breastfeeding!

nonsense about the sudocreme . Metanium is great on bad nappy rash, also if it's nice weather a bit of nappy off time outside in the shade or indeed just inside (outside less messy) as the air will help. Hope it clears soon.

Glad i'm not the only one who thinks it's rubbish. Who would say that?

I've heard that you shouldn't use sudocreme on cloth nappies but it always seemed ok when I used to use it (again, it was when dd was teething).

Cooled chamomile tea is supposed to help too - use it instead of your normal wipe solution or whatever you use.

tummytickler · 13/05/2008 22:19

Ooooh - chamomile tea! I will give that a go first thing - thank you!
And i already the lasinoh in my handbag for bfing.
Lots of ideas - surely something will work!!!
Thanks everybody

I think the idea is tyhat using sudocrem can affect the absorbancy of the nappies and i would hate to ruin my lovely nappies!

Metanium - I use it with cloth nappies and it is very fast acting. Best thing I've tried.

The only nappies that don't recommend use of creams i seem to remember were some pocket ones, forget the name, very popular -fleece llining & polyurethene outer. HTH

I use sudocream with cloth & have no problems. Make sure you dont put too much sudocream on - as per the instructions on their website:

The general rule is to use a small amount and apply in a thin layer. Massage in small circular movements until the Sudocrem has disappeared leaving a translucent film. If this does not cover the affected area apply a little more. However, if the area stays white after application, too much has been applied.

  • thank you jane99 - i did not know that - i always put loads on! - i shall remember that in future.
I will also give the other suggestions a try - thanks everyone

i like metanium too. I think fuzzi bunz say no creams (but they leaked ALL the time anyway).

Agree lots of nappy off time. And washing nappies at 60degress helped - no rash since doing that. Bathing morning and night?

Hope it clears

Sazisi · 15/05/2008 11:56

You could use Caldesene powder..

Octothechildherder · 15/05/2008 14:36

Metanium - it could be thrush so maybe ask your HV/doctor about getting some cream. My ds gets that horrible bleeding rash sometimes and I know the signs so I pop some Canestan HC on it and it goes away.
