Toddler, portion and eczema

My little boy is 2.5 and has had eczema since around 8/9months, his father plus auntie’s etc on his fathers side all suffer with eczema though they have mostly grown out of it and it only affects my husbands hands now.

we tried cutting out dairy when he was 1 for around 1 for about 6 months with no change and the GP is pretty sure it’s just genetic as it does tend to run in families.

we manage it best we can with a routine of steroids and emollients however we are going through a very bad flare just now and waiting to collect a steroid on Monday. We have also moved to paraffin free emollients - aproderm oat colloidal cream 3-4 times a day and then epimax paraffin free ointment at night. But he scratches relentlessly. I’d been seeing online people have some success with piriton syrup, do you think this would be worth a try? He really scratches, sometimes it bleeds.

We would have given DD at that age an antihistamine at night sometimes and it did help. We just got the genetic, unbranded stuff. If he's scratching a lot at night, maybe try the pyjamas with mitts and feet - we got them from eczema clothing website but that was 15 years ago! It did mean she did less damage, though.

Yes we have used antihistamines like piriton in the past as suggested by our GP and it has worked, especially to stop scratching at night. My DCs have both grown out of it and although still have sensitive skin, they no longer have regular flare ups.

We used all kinds of steroids and couldn’t get on top of it. We used Salcura, and much is all natural and it cleared it straight up. Game changer, all gone in less than a month. Still eczema free - still use the spray- one year later!
