Sounds a bit like my daughter. It was a combination of mild reflux, severe silent reflux and multiple food allergies. It was only by having high dose reflux treatment for the silent reflux and me removing her allergens from my diet that things started to improve. She ended up on 3 reflux treatments and me on a very limited diet to get to the bottom everything. For her, the reflux is in addition to allergies although the allergies do make it worse

What have you tried so far?

Julie1736 · 15/03/2025 11:23

well first of all they just said there give us some bath stuff that’s very oily and some cream called cetaben however it’s spelt and that made her eczema worse so I went back to the gp they give me aptamil pepti 1 and she wasn’t getting enough from the milk so we put her back on aptamil comfort milk and she’s taking more of it and we’ve stopped all the bath stuff what about you?

We started with gaviscon for the reflux. Moved on to omperazole which didn't do a lot as our GP had us on a low dose and it didn't work for my daughter until she was on a high dose and had gaviscon too
This was when I started removing foods from my diet. I identified quite a few foods she was allergic too.
We had to add domperidone too.
Eventually I had to stop breastfeeding and we went to an amino acid prescription formula

I would probably speak to your dr about reflux treatment possibly with another trial of the formula. My daughter had feeding aversions due to reflux and allergies. The allergy formulas are often thinner and needs thickeners. They might need a completely dairy free formula like an amino acid rather than the extensively hydrolysed formula you've tried

I was going to say it could be CMPA or Tongue Tie but after reading your list of symptoms I think it’s more likely to be CMPA. Don’t take my word for it though, Allergy UK have a helpline where you can discuss what’s going on and see if they think it’s an allergy Flowers

Cow’s Milk Allergy

Cow’s milk allergy is an abnormal response by the body’s immune system in which proteins in a food are recognised as a potential threat.

Yep we had the exact same thing, tried gaviscon, lactose free milks and the lot. The only thing that worked was when she grew out of it about 7 months old. It. Was. Hell.

Sounds like CMPA. If you’re bottle feeding you might need a really broken down milk such as neocate, it must also contain no soya as CMPA babies are often allergic to soya as well. If you’re bf cut out all milk and soya.
Carobel can help with reflux as it thickens the milk. Mine were ok if I held them upright for half an hour after every feed which was hard

Have you been checked for a tongue tie?

Was your baby gaining weight ok tho?

I had a baby with severe TT who gained weight. Mainly because he was feeding 24/7.

skkyelark · 19/03/2025 08:47

I agree that it sounds like CMPA, and that you may need to try a different formula for that, possibly for longer (it takes time for baby's gut to heal) and with a thickener like carobel. You might also need a stronger reflux treatment, but if it is CMPA, sorting the milk may be enough.

For the eczema, you may need to try a different cream. Unfortunately different creams work for different people and to a significant degree it's just trial and error (although an experienced prescriber can speed it up a bit by knowing which ones are more similar).

My daughter has 20 allergies and was nicely following the 9th percentile. I was told no problems with weight can't be allergies for ages because of this. I'm only small so they said she's normal and growing well.

Started removing allergens from my diet and she jumped to the 25th-50th percentiles where she's stayed!

@Julie1736 how are you getting on? Your initial post described my baby exactly. I’m really struggling.
