How much is enough?

My LB is a good weight he’s more on the larger size tbh. He is 4 months next week. He’s meant to have 5 bottles of 180ml. He used to have 5 bottle from the hours of 6:30am -6:30pm but some days he will only have 4 bottles and go sleep (though the night), but today and the other day he only had 3 bottles. I will wake him for a 4th but is this normal or should be worried?

I should/will be putting him up to 210ml of 4 bottles a day soon (at 4 months) but again what if he only has 3? Do I wake him or leave him? As he generally ones he’s gone to sleep at half 7 won’t wake till the morning himself unless I wake him myself

Generally you should ignore the formula packet and feed on demand. Include slightly more milk in the bottle than he usually takes and let him choose how much he drinks. 3 bottles a day doesn’t seem much but I would offer more frequently during the day rather than waking him at night.

I definitely wouldn't wake a 4 month old to feed him. He'll wake up when he's hungry. Try and offer more through the day but as PP said, ignore the formula tin. Babies aren't one size fits all and naturally some drink more/less than others.

definitely ignore the carton. That’s just a very rough guide.

What you’re aiming for is 150 mls per kilo a day. So if he’s say 7 kilos he’ll need 1050 ml in 24 hours.

Also agree with putting more in the botyle than you know he’ll drink. Once a baby is draining the bottles you need to up the quantity in the bottle Smile

As he's not underweight I definitely wouldn't wake him to feed!

*bottle

I would feed him whenever he’s hungry and always offer a bottle with enough that sometimes he leaves some. If he’s finishing every bottle, I’d offer more in every bottle. As long as you aren’t ignoring him when he’s clearly hungry, he is getting plenty so don’t worry.

How have you both got on today ? Smile
