It's very convenient to stop toddler crying when he's tired etc but I don't want him having it for much longer

Any tips?

I think the offical advice is get rid of it at 12 months. I moved to using it strictly for sleeping then.

How old? As a toddler I'd get rid asap.

Sleep for 12 hours so that's half the day lol

My son only took his for sleeping. At 3 he stopped using it overnight by himself. No input from us.

His teeth are fine.

Depends. Would they suck they thumb if they didn't have the dummy?
My girl is 3 years old and still uses it during the night - we try to take it away but end up sucking her thumb instead.

I talked to numerous dentist about it, and they all said the dummy is better than thumb sucking.

Mine is 22 months. She goes to nursery 2 days a week 8-6 & hasn't had it there for 6 months (I didn't realise it wasn't in her bag). But at home she is obsessed. Sees one & it's hell until she has it, even if she already has one.

By 2, I want her to just have it for nap & bedtime. At christmas, 2yr9 months, I think we'll give it to the elves or something.

Dentists say teeth will correct themselves if it's gone by 3.

Dd had one at bedtime until she was 5, then one night just didn't want it anymore. Her choice.

Her teeth are fine.

my Little boy was obsessed with his dummy and we thought we would have a nightmare getting rid as it was the only thing that would calm his many tantrums. We gave the dummy to Santa when he was just over 2 and he hasn’t even mentioned it since! Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet

My DS is exactly the same age and I’ve no plans to get rid of it in the immediate future. I limit its use as in when he’s running about playing, which is the majority of the time he doesn’t have it in. But if he’s upset/hurt/tired I let him have it for 10 minutes or so until he’s calmed down. And of course he has it for sleep. I got so het up about my daughters dummy and drove myself mad hiding it from her the second she opened her eyes, in the end she gave it up easily before her 3rd birthday and it really wasn’t a drama at all. I’m definitely more relaxed with my DS. I always tell him to take it out when he’s talking and he just does it automatically now. He’s not as dummy obsessed as his sister was though. He wants it when he’s sad but other than that he’s not fussed.
