SEN child with vomiting bug and newborn

My 7yo started throwing up this morning. I also have a newborn and am recovering from a C-section. I have a DH who has been looking after us all.

What can we do to prevent the baby getting ill and also what can we do to prepare for everyone to be ill? I'm mixed feeding and I'm breastfeeding as much as I can but my supply is too low to store much.

Luckily we got a shop in yesterday. Should I suggest DH handles my older child entirely while I focus on baby, or is it too late for baby and me? My older child is refusing water now as he doesn't want to vomit again, and I'm worried about dehydration, but it's really hard for press him because of his SEN. 😭

Hand washing is key, my newborn and me ended up with conjunctivitis in this situation, despite my best efforts.

Yes I think I'd get your DH to focus on older DC and keep clear of you.

You should drink loads and stay mega hydrated so if it does hit it will take longer for you to get dehydrated and it might help flush it through.

Would older child drink apple juice? It's really good for dehydration. We were told by a paediatrician that a study has found it to be as effective as rehydration salts in kids and obviously it's much more palatable.

Get DH antibacing all surfaces, handles, taps etc. Can you avoid sharing a bathroom? Lots of hand sanitiser.

Hand sanitiser and antibac probably wont do anything here. Soap and water for hands, and bleach for the surfaces/bathroom is best.

Sounds really rough. Just wanted to say that ice lollies can be great for sickness bugs/getting some liquids in. One of mine is often really sick when they have a high temp and everything comes up - the fruit pastille ice lollies are particularly good here!

Very little I’m afraid when you’re living in the same house. You cannot keep away from your older child - he needs his mum when he is sick, baby or no baby.
Hope you all get well soon.

Whilst I agree to an extent, if the older child is happy to be cared for by Dad, I really do think that with a fresh c-section wound it would be entirely reasonable for OP to try to avoid a vomiting bug. Retching over a toilet when you've not long been cut open will be extremely unpleasant.

Thank you all. I did get it in the end but thankfully it was very short lived. DH and newborn escaped it. Useful tips here that I'll keep in mind for next time.
