Fussiness at 5 months old

Hi everyone I’ve never really done a post like this but I don’t know what to do anymore😔

I have a lg who will be 5 months old in 4 days, she is extremely fussy throughout the days. She suffered with colic from 3 weeks and I do feel as though the colic has gone now. But she is so cranky all day every day, I always make sure she has been fed and is full, change her bum. She is a very nosey baby and will refuse to sleep most days, especially if I go out the house she will not sleep at all😩

She has been teething which I’ve been keeping on top of calpol, teething gels and teething toys for her.

She is only really satisfied with toys or playing for a short amount of time and then will become cranky.

I feel mentally and physically drained and don’t know how much more I can take of this, I wish there was an answer for when she will be a completely happy baby and no fussiness, I understand all babies cry but this is on another level😔

a lot of people said to me that the 12 week mark was a magic age where everything got easier, but I found the hardest time between 4-6 months. My baby was so fussy, cried a lot whilst he was awake, just didn’t often seem happy. He was a colicky baby too and had reflux which all added to it.
I found if significantly improved when we hit the 6ish month mark. Since being able sit up and move around a bit more and starting solids which has helped get rid of the reflux and tummy troubles. Weirdly, he seemed to be teething for a few months but only got his first teeth at about 8 months and has just had four top ones come through all at once, but even that wasn’t as bad as how he was between that 4-6 month period. I have heard a few others say the same about that age. Like everything with them, it’s a phase and it will pass 😊

Have you tried the parsons powders to settle her stomach?

If you go out is it the pram? Half raised?

I have a 5 month old who is also cranky all day. He was actually an easy newborn but reached 4 months and just seemed to change.
I feel like naps rule my day but you really have to work hard to get them to sleep and this age and it has such an impact on their mood.
How long is she awake before you try and get her to sleep for her first nap? I always find if the first nap falls into place the others seem to follow easier.
Have you tried getting her to sleep in the pram inside? The outside world is really interesting but a hallway... Not as much.
Other than that solidarity and it does get better. At this stage with my first I actually brought my return to work early to 9 months because I didn't think I could be off for a year. Got to about 6/7 months and regretted it because it got a little easier again!

For teething try nurofen and anbesol liquid (not gel). Apply the anbesol before feeding.

You baby sounds overtired to me. They still need 2 naps a day at this stage. I would recommend an excellent book Baby Wisperer Solves All Your Problems (the one with the yellow cover). The author used to work as a paediatric nurse so she knows a lot about babies You don't need to read the entire book, she has lots of useful information in the first chapter

I really hope this is the case for my lg, I read lots of things with parents saying there babies are still cranky until 2 years of age and I feel like I'm at my wits end with things😩 I do try and get her to sit up most days with sit me ups etc but she hates it and will scream the house down! Praying there is a positive outcome very soon. Thank you☺️

Yes I've tried the powder I didn't really feel it made much difference. Then I tried the gel version which did kind of help a bit more but now not so much. I have ordered the anbesol liquid so hopefully this might help a lot more. With her pram too because she's still in her carry cot there's only so much I can adjust it too and she will still be cranky. Thank you☺️

Yes 100% naps are so important for babies, I have been using the huckleberry app for about a month now which that will tell me when to put her down for a nap after her wake up in the morning. It's usually 1hr 30 wake window but then getting her asleep is a challenge, then throughout the day following the nap schedules she seems to become more cranky so I've kind of stopped going by the app and going by her signs of tiredness but she is still very cranky. I'm thinking could she be teething very bad but then I'm thinking she's been like this for weeks so is this normal for them to be this cranky everyday for weeks with teething pain. Thank you for your advice☺️

I've just bought some nurofen so hopefully this works, I also couldn't find the anbesol liquid in the shop so I have ordered some online. Thank you☺️

She has about 10-11 hours sleep at night and then it all depends on her naps throughout the day, most naps she has are around 30-60 mins that is around 3-4 times a day. It's so hard when they can't tell you what's wrong😥 I will definitely check that out, is the book called the one with the yellow cover or is that what it looks like? Thank you☺️

The book is called Baby Wisperer Solves All Your Problems. You need 2nd edition, yellow cover. It's much better than the 1st. The book has been a life saviour for me. Baby Wisperer believes that 1.5 naps are better than short ones. Corresponds with my experience. I also used No Cry Nap Solutions by Elizabeth Pantley for ideas. Both my children became much happier once their sleep improved (first one wouldn't sleep in the night, 2nd wouldn't nap🤯).

This phase shall pass
