Infant dyschezia help

Our son is currently 10 weeks old and has been suffering from what I have self diagnosed as infant dyschezia for the last 4 weeks. I have taken him to the drs who have just said it’s colic but I’m becoming increasingly worried about him. From what I’ve read online, babies with ID will poop/fart after 10 minutes of trying, however our LO will only fart or poop if I’m doing knees to chest. I’m now worried that I’ve set him up to fail by doing this and that he’s never going to learn to poop or fart by himself. Every time he’s awake, he is screaming and straining with no success. He screams every time he’s lay on his back (I don’t want to give him infant gaviscon as this can make him constipated) and currently only sleeps chest to chest with me or my husband. I’ve bought a baby bjorn and vibrating baby bouncer after reading that these are miracle poop chairs, to know avail. I’ve tried gripe water, which I’ve now stopped as I wasn’t noticing a difference. I give him colief and probiotics but he’s still struggling. Just wondering if anyone has any advice/can reassure me that I haven’t messed up his ability to go by himself. From a very worried mum who just wants to make her baby happy.

That seems like a lot of interventions and treatments for a 10 week old with no diagnosis.

Kindly OP, everything you're describing is totally normal for a young baby. DC3 is 4 months old and still sometimes struggles with this. I don't 'do' anything for it, it's been improving as they age. When they're very upset and struggling I carry them around upright, massage their tummy, do bicycle legs with them etc but that's it.

I wouldn’t say I’m doing more than the usual mum, trying to make my baby happy and comfortable anyway I can.

From other mums that I’ve spoken to, their babies will still fart multiple times a day and poop at least every few days. My LO can’t do either of these things unless I’m doing knees to chest which I don’t think is typical for a newborn.

Infant dyschezia is a developmental phase. But if he is screaming every time is he on his back it sounds like silent reflux. For many children with reflux they will out grow it.

Please do not take him to a chiropractor as advised by a PP. They don't have the training to safely treat babies. Have you had a chat with your health visitor?

Currently having the same problem with our 4 week old. How did it turn out in the end?

Hi, we ended up going to an osteopath which did provide a little relief but it turned out that my breast milk was drying up so unfortunately he wasn’t getting enough to produce stools. Luckily he was weighed by an NHS feeding specialist before it got too severe and they were able to pick up on it and we had to move him to formula which fixed everything.

I have noticed this with my 7 week old baby in the last week or so. Self diagnosing as I don’t believe or feel like the doctor would offer much except drugs!!

We are just over one week into a dairy free diet due to suspected CMPA. She is now EBF. I don’t think she had this until after we cut dairy from our diets, we were combination feeding until we realised something was not right. Before this elimination diet she had extremely bad diarrhoea.

This dyschezia Is so Distressing to see. We are doing tummy rubs, bicycle legs and holding upright when an episode happens.

The strange thing is, she farts a lot and manages to poo fine the majority of the time.
