1 year old never sleeps!

My ds is nearly 1. What an amazing and sleep deprived year it’s been. His never been a great sleeper. Actually, he has. When he was first born he would sleep through the night at 2 months but regressed phenomenally. He still wakes up every hour throughout the night still trying to feed. He has been down to 1 nap for a while now but has a 6/7 hour wake window. Sometimes he skips the nap all together. As much as I try to train him he cannot be without me. He screams until his purple and can’t catch his breath. His very stubborn. He is happy, playful, and eating a lot during the day. I give him lots of solids but it’s no use. Everyday is like we are at a soft play. He’s always so excited. When I have tried moving his bed time earlier he will wake up in the middle of the night and start playing for hours. Once he woke up at 3 and stayed awake til 8 in the morning. I thought it was supposed to get easier at 1!

No direct experience to share, OP, but three thoughts. I wondered whether your DS is walking yet. If he is, you have a better chance of wearing him out so he cannot but sleep. Another thing to think about is bedtime routine. This Works do a range to promote sleep in babies, currently on offer https://www.thisworks.com/products/baby-sleep-bedtime-ritual. Does he associate sleep with anyone other than you - childminder, nursery, dad, grandparent and, if so, does he nap when they take care of him?

Two things that helped us were moving them to their own room then when they were a bit more used to that, we did some gentle night weaning.

I think being awake for 5 hours during the night is a bit unusual though.

Has he had his 12 month check yet?

Mine both had 6-7 hour wake windows and were down to one nap at that stage. When does he get up and when are you trying to put him to bed? For us, the routine at that age would have been something like:

6 am wake
nap after lunch, going down around 12.30-1 pm, sleep 1-1.5 hours
then asleep 8.30-9 pm

As the nap got shorter, bedtime moved a bit earlier, but putting them to bed at 7 pm would still have been madness.
