Hello,
Our little boy is exactly 2 months old. He was born weighing 2680 grams at the beginning of the 39th week of gestation (via C-section). His length was 48 cm. By the 2nd month, he is now 4710 grams, with a length of 56.5 cm and a head circumference of 39 cm. We are concerned that he is small in terms of height and weight, as he is below the minimum for his age. The pediatrician said there is no reason to worry for now, but of course, I am still concerned... Sad.
Both parents are 178 cm tall, and we have no health issues.
The good thing is that the baby is gaining weight and centimeters, but it seems like it's not enough.
I would be happy to hear your opinions.
Best regards,

Hi @Rozzzeto I am guessing you are not in the UK, as length isn't usually measured at birth here and babies don't see a paediatrician for routine checks.

Has your doctor explained baby's centile chart to you? On the UK-WHO growth charts, your baby was born between the 2nd and 9th centile for weight and around the 9th centile for length. At two months, he's now on or slightly above the 9th centile for weight and between the 9th and 25th centile for length.

So baby is growing beautifully – as long as they are 'following their centile', growth is generally good, and your baby is doing more than that, he's gone up the centiles slightly. He's a bit smaller than average – but half of children have to be smaller than average, that's how averages work!

What centiles is he on? Usually there is no cause for concern unless babies lose or stop gaining weight or drop significantly or completely off the centile chart. Those measurements don’t really mean anything unless they are compared to national averages where you live.

For comparison, Dh and I are both tall (5’9 and 6’5) and had a baby who was between 2nd and 9th centile for length and weight. She was just a small baby. 🤷🏻‍♀️ She’s now an above averagely tall preteen now.

I think it takes 12-24months to catch up from small birth weight. He’s only 2 months

As a comparison my Ds was 4100kg born and 54cm. So by 2 months of course he was much heavier and longer than yours is, but he started out bigger to start with. I think he was 62cm if I remember, but I can’t remember weight.

He grew at about average weight and height for around 12 months, then tailed off. Now at 5years he’s tall ish but almost in underweight category. He’s grown height wise but a fussy eater who doesn’t stop moving. So their growing rate isn’t linear and will change over time as they grow.

Yours has gained 2kg, almost double birth their weight again in 2 months which seems plenty. I can’t remember Ds weight, but he definitely hadn’t doubled 4kg, he was maybe 6kg ish
