6 month old wheat intolerance?

Just looking for some advice, I have been testing my six and a half month old with Weetabix, started 3 days ago. Yesterday DC started with sneezing and became quite snotty, with loose stools. This has remained this morning with red eyes. Noticed one little red spot on DC’s back last night but nothing we could put down to hives etc. could this be an allergic reaction or could it just be a common cold? What would the next steps be? Leave for a bit and try with wheat again in a couple of weeks?

I wouldn’t assume these things are related necessarily. My dc did have a food allergy develop at 6 months, but the symptoms were projectile vomiting, hives all over and her whole face swelled up. Literally within an hour of eating and gone a couple hours later.

To me, this sounds more like a virus. I personally would just carry on with weaning if she’s feeling okay. Obviously note anything strange going forward, try some foods that aren’t wheat containing, and see how she gets on. But an allergy wouldn’t be my first assumption.

My youngest is confirmed non coeliac gluten intolerant, as am I.
For us, he had very loose nappies and a constant snotty nose and after a few months started randomly vomiting which increased to every other day before we sussed what it was and got referred to paediatrics. At that point, he also looked vampire like, not putting on much weight.
For you op, your little one has only just begun the weaning journey, so I would stop the weetabix for a few days at least, maybe a bit longer, and give porridge/oats instead, along with all the fruits and veg etc.
It may be coincidence of a viral thing, but once its cleared, try weetabix again and see what happens.
For what it's worth, I've never been able to tolerate weetabix, even before I developed the true intolerance a few years ago (thanks to covid I believe...we all caught it at the same time, thankfully not too unwell and at the time I was starting to wean). It's always gone through me (sorry, tmi).
Hope that helps.
