Rota virus - long effects on baby plus adult symptoms?

DS had this vaccine about 2.5weeks and was fine for a week after aside from being a bit grumpy with gas. Then the explosive green poops started - a bit late to the party I though but I guess could be normal? Anyway we are now another 1.5 weeks down the line and his poops are nothing but green paste, and they stink while often making it up to his armpits. Thankfully he is still only going once or twice a day.

Could this just be a delayed and prolonged effect to the vaccination?

Also, for the past 4 or 5 days my daily BMs have been loose and urgent, but no colour change and while they are a bit more stinky it's nothing like DS. Could I have picked the virus up from nappy changes? I have no sickness but Friday and Saturday I was in and out of bed with low stomach cramps and genuinely feeling off. Today I've woke up full of a cold too.

If its still ongoing by the end of the week I'll contact my GP but just wondering if anyone else had similar.

Sounds like you both might have a bug which ciukd he completely unrelated to the vaccine. Keep yourself and LO hydrated and I'd take some paracetamol too Flowers

Thanks for you replying.

I did think about a standalone bug but no one in the house is effected. Only me... Who does 95% of the nappies so I wondered.

I'll keep a eye on it. Just feel it's gone on a long time for DS

You can catch rotavirus when your baby has had the vaccine. I remember the nurse telling me to make sure I wash my hands after every nappy change for that reason.

But in terms of whether this is a delayed rotavirus effect, I don’t know unfortunately.

Agree with above, sounds a little long after vaccine to be still having tummy upset. Could be a stomach bug unrelated to the vaccine. Lots of Noro going at the minute. My house has recently been hit with a bug causing diarrhoea in DS 7 months for a full 8 days. Then myself, and finally DH.

We've both had no sickness so would that not rule out noro?

DC and DH have had noro in the past where it’s been just diarrhoea but I’ve been hit with the vomiting and diarrhoea. It varies person to person.

I'd also try him with a probiotic Wink

You could save a nappy and take it to the GP to test, given how long LO has been ill. They will be able to tell you if it's still rota, or noro or something else.

Thanks - I will try to save one of the better ones that haven't imploded 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ if we do get a GP appointment.

And double check this is something your GP will do. GPs don’t routinely test for viruses.
