Did breastfeeding come to an end naturally for you?

I've been bfing my 16 month old exclusively since birth. Obviously not exclusively now as he's on solids. I was just wondering for anyone who bf longer than 12 months how their journey came an end. Was it a natural progression or did you have to actively stop? My ds still very much asks for it and wants it. I would love for it to end naturally but I'm not sure if that's possible. Would ideally like to not be bfing past 2.

Yes, DD2 finished bf naturally but it was at 5 and half years old. I found it much easier after 2 years though as it was no longer on demand and never overnight.

DD forgot to feed for a week at about 3 years 9 months and that stopped it. I was 16 weeks pregnant and waiting for my milk to dry up because of that but it didn’t and I don’t know when it might have it she’d continued. It was her idea and I was ready as I didn’t fancy tandem feeding but I wasn’t desperate.

DS is nearly 2, still feeds several times a day and I hope to carry on until he’s ready to stop.
