5 year old sickness bug

My 5 year old has taken the brunt of the sickness bug that hit us this week. DP nausea no puking, 1 year old one puke, me one puke, but eldest has been puking two or three times a day since Tuesday. He is otherwise himself now, albeit a bit tired. He was starving this morning and kept down his breakfast, but hasn’t had much of an appetite for the rest of the day.

So, this is day 3. At what point would you speak to the doc, or wouldn’t you? He can keep liquids down, but won’t take any dioralyte etc

I probably wouldn't as there's been a nasty bug going around. Obviously aware it's Friday tomorrow which would leave the weekend. But it sounds like hopefully it's peaked. If he's had some breakfast and is keeping liquids down I would keep him resting - really nasty bug sounds a bit like norovirus. Hope he feels better soon x

There's loads of norovirus going around, it's the worst season for over five years. If your son can keep down water and doesn't seem unusually sleepy, feverish, rash-y (basically any red flags), you should give it a few more days. But do contact the GP, 111 etc if you get worried, he gets worse etc.

I wouldn’t seek medical advice unless he was obviously dehydrated or showing other worrying symptoms like being difficult to wake and so on. Otherwise it’s just about keeping him comfortable, offering regular sips of fluid and when he’s up to it dry food. It will pass x

What I mean is, there’s no treatment for a sickness bug other than admission for antiemetics and fluids if there’s a risk of dehydration x

Our household has it. I have been the worst out of everyone. I was being sick every 15 mins.
My 8 month old has been sick twice but barely eating and drinking. She had a drs appointment yesterday and he did the usual checks and she is fine. Just said I have to try everything to get her to drink that was his main concern. Dr advised me that the sickness bug is normally away this time of year but they have had a second wind of it and he has seen 20 babies/toddlers in 2 weeks because of it. I wouldn’t go to DR unless ur concerned about drinking I only took my baby because she was barely drinking. We are now coming out the other end of it but my god it was awful

It sounds like a normal sick bug and now he's on the mend. I don't think there is any cause for a doctor at this point. Although, obviously keep an eye on him and get medical help if he becomes very lethargic, strops drinking, can't keep anything down or is in pain.

Well he was back to school today after 2 days of no sickness but he’s just puked everywhere in bed! So this will be 7 days now albeit on and off. He’s taking fluids but really has no apetite.

im thinking GP tomorrow for a check
