Worried about my son (17 months old)

Hi Guys,

I am new to the site and just want to pick your brains.

I have a one year old son who isn't his normal self. He's usually very vocal and energetic but this week he has been very sleepy and lethargic. He's been sick twice straight after eating and doesn't seem too interested in his food.. which is strange for him. This has been going on for about five days.

We took him to the doctors and they were not concerned although they did not seem to check him very thoroughly.

I am aware I could be overreacting as he is my first child and it is likely a minor flu but is there anything I need to look out for and how can I get him back to normal as soon as possible?

Thank you Mums and Dads

So sorry he seems unwell @Bolt94?

How is he after having pain relief? And is he drinking his milk normally?

I think there’s something going round at the moment. My 20 month old son has been the same this week. He is a good eater usually but has been mostly breastfeeding this week and sleeping a lot, which is very unlike him he usually never stops. We couldn’t get a doctors appointment until Monday. I have no idea what it is. I would just keep a close eye on him and try to make sure he’s keeping hydrated. I hope you’re little one feels better soon.

Oh bless him. I’ve got 4 children so feel qualified to give my take on this after many, many nights in A&E etc. Is your little one drinking? Eating? (Even if it’s only a small amount) What is his temperature? Is he having wet and soiled nappies still? If the answer to all that is yes and the temp is normal or slightly raised then I think you have to ride it out even though it’s awful to see them like that. I’ve sat in emergency clinics and hospitals too many times just to be told that there’s no treatment because of what I’ve just said. I would just keep a very close eye on him which you already are and keep checking temp and go into the GP or 111 if he isn’t a drinking or eating for more than a few hours. I have found pain relief often helps them perk up enough to enjoy their food etc so maybe try that even if he doesn’t seem in pain. I hope he feels better soon, Sometimes they catch back to back virus’ and it’s awful x
