Pushchair / Stroller max child height

I can’t research this anymore, so hoping someone might be able to help me here.

our dd is 4 years old and weighs 15kg. We are after a pushchair for her as she has mild cerebral palsy and struggles with walking and gets tired very easily. We would like a stroller that reclines so she can have a nap if needed.
many pushchairs seem to accommodate up to 22kg so that’s fine, but I’m worried about the height and not sure if she will fit most pushchairs now. She is 98cm tall.
I’ve seen that the baby jogger city mini gt2 for a child of up to 112cm, but it’s out of our budget. Looking to spend around the £180 mark maximum.
Ive been looking at the silver cross pop, does anyone know if this would work for us at her height?
I’ve also seen the my babiie mb160 which is for a child of 110cm max, but the reviews aren’t the best on this.
any help would be greatly appreciated xx

I had an almost identical issue (child is nearly 6, 15kg , just over 1m, medical issues etc) and I did a HUGE amount of research. The problem (as you've found) is that most pushchairs go upto a high weight, but not height. The special needs buggies don't tend to recline and so it's really tricky.

We went for the Phil and Ted's sporty online. It's got a much higher seat and my little one can lie down in it for naps. It's also very manouverable and good on rough ground. It's not perfect. It's heavy, it hates being folded, recline is faffy and it's not totally lie flat as the bit where the feet are dips down. In many ways I hate it 😂. But it's the only one that ticked our essential need boxes, which are similar to yours.

The next nearest (and opposite in terms of style) is the bugaboo butterfly. It got a surprisingly tall seat. It's folds down small, very compact, good for travelling etc. Downsides are the bugaboo price label, a relatively narrow seat, and although it reclines, it doesn't lie flat.

Neither come out anywhere near your price range sadly, but you may be able to get one second hand, which is what we did. For the Phil and Ted's, don't go for other models (some are smaller) and you want at least the v5 model. I tried an earlier one and the way the seat was sling made it non usable for napping.

We tried the the baby jogger city mini gt2, and it was smaller than it's dimensions suggested. Not suitable at all. The pop was what we upgraded from as it was too small - though it was an ancient model which may have been smaller.

I've sent you a PM re this btw, in case it's helpful.

If you're willing to consider second hand, it's worth looking at some of the running buggies. For example, the Mountain Buggy Terrain is ginormous. It would be out of budget new but they do come up on marketplace.

I'd suggest the Joie Versatrax, I'm not sure on the spec for it but my VERY tall 2 year old (94cm) still fits it very well. I've loved it as a pushchair, very easy to use and comfy to push. It's above your price range but you could buy second hand.

I had a similar thread once for our massive DS. He's the same height as your DD and 18kg at 2 years old (my back confirms this!). I did a ton of research and we landed on the Joie Parcel Signature and very happy with it. His head is a bit above the top of the backrest but he can lean back fine, it depends if your dd needs full support for her head? It reclines nicely, has one hand fold and has managed tougher journeys than we expected. Also pretty cheap at £150.

I would look at a second hand baby jogger, my 5year old still fits in it quite comfortably and it lays pretty flat. We have a slightly older version and I think they are slightly more roomy.

If you expect to need a pushchair for a while, I would go with an SN buggy. Some SN buggies recline &/or tilt in space e.g. special tomato jogger, special tomato EIO, Ormesa bug, some of Hoggi’s buggies, swifty.

If you go down this route, there are charities who provide grants for SN buggies. You could also request a referral to wheelchair services.

Second hand babyjogger ! I have a Babyjogger City Mini zip (can't get them new now but got mine of FB marketplace) It has an incredibly small fold yet takes 25kg weight and is incredibly spacious.. my nearly 4 yr old grandson still has plenty of room (though he's had to give it up for his sister!) The Babyjoggers are a great size.

Longer term though it will be worth asking for a referral to Occupational Therapy for a larger SN stroller. My DS2 needed one until he was 9 and they provided it. It also stopped people saying 'you are a big boy why aren't you walking?' which annoyed me!

Does anyone have the MyBabiiee? I’m looking at them at the moment but don’t know anyone with it or anywhere I can try! I have heard mixed reviews with people saying they are flimsy!

The ickle bubba Aries is a fab stroller that reclines right back and is defo good value for money

Do you think this would be okay for a 3yr old?

Panda8383 · 01/11/2025 21:06

yeah I’m sure it’s up to 22kg, I think 4 years old and very easy to put down and up x

Simplelifeneeded · 04/11/2025 00:19

Ds uses a special needs buggy they are made for taller and heavier child ours is upto 50kg. His doesn't recline because we don't need one that does but there are special needs buggys that do recline. They can be a little pricey but they do last a long time.
