Rash/blisters on 17 month old *pics*

We’ve really been struggling with my 17 month old’s eczema patches recently. He’s had Fucidin antibiotic lotion that hasn’t really done anything and everytime we finish steroids (1% hydrocortisone) it comes back.

Hes got out of the bath tonight and this is what his ankle has flared up to (it’s shiny as it has cream on)- the patch itself is not new, neither is the redness but the blistery looking bits are new. His other patches are sore but not like this. Planning on going back to GP in the morning but any ideas in the meantime? He’s otherwise fine in himself, no temp, sleeping as normal, maybe slightly reduced appetite for “real” food this evening but will happily eat something sweet!

I did post last week about chicken pox at his nursery, he hasn’t been in since (as I am due to have a c section this week) and he has no other spots/symptoms

That does look like chickenpox, I have to say. The incubation period can be as much as 21 days.

Definitely GP tomorrow to confirm. Let them know about the cases at nursery.

@OtterMummy2024

i probably would normally be tempted to agree except I just think it’s unusual that they’re completely contained within the borders of his eczema patch and literally not one single other spot on him!

Could the blisters be early impetigo?

It doesn't look like chicken pox, it doesn't get contained to one area like this, and it usually starts on the trunk and moves outwards. Unless there are blisters elsewhere on the body?

OwlsDance · 16/02/2025 22:14

Sorry, just saw you said there's no other blisters.

I used to get blistery eczema like that at its worst. It was both very itchy and painful, your poor baby!

Little update- blisters had all popped, dried out and looked horrendous by the morning, he had a really disturbed night and kept waking up to rub his ankle along the cot bars. Also woke up with this rash on his face. Took him to GP, felt ankle was infected and face potentially impetigo. Either way it looks awful. He’s got oral fluxcloxacillin and I got him some baby piriton to help at bedtime. She didn’t feel it was chicken pox so hopefully he’s escaped this round and he’s not just going to get that in the next week or so 😩😂

I think the rash on the foot looks a lot like hives, maybe a reaction to something hes eaten? My husband broke out in hives really randomly once after eating a certain type of cheese, looked just like that.
