Hi, my baby is just over 4 weeks old and EBF...she has had some mucus in her nappies and they have been really loose, The Gp put it down to she had a cold but she seems so much better in her self and the nappies haven’t seemed to improve. My hv suggest if they don’t seem better try and cut dairy from my diet my first born was formula fed so this is all new to me I just wanted to see what other mums thought whether they had similar experiences. Thank you!

Breastfed three babies and I think they've all had nappies like that at various points. Is there anything else that makes you worried about an intolerance? If baby's fine otherwise then I wouldn't worry.

It can take days after a virus for their nappies to go back to normal. I've found that with my 7m old who's BF anyway.

I had so many projectile poos from my baby (90% breastfed at that age), and many many nappies like this. When a newborn, I found that having orange juice made this worse... But I think it was mainly just normal! They do gradually grow out of it...

Thank you everyone, it was just because the Hv mentioned maybe a dairy intolerance I went down the google route and she does have some of the symptoms but them being symptoms that babies can just have she is a very content baby so I do think I'm just over worrying.

My daughters allergy nappies looked like that but so did her teething and cold poos and later anxiety poos.
She was doing 10+ a day a 4 weeks and starting to get quite miserable. It was only at 4 months we got a diagnosis.
I probably wouldn't cut out dairy now but I would probably keep a food and symptom diary for a week or two and see if there is any correlation in loose nappies and the amount of dairy and high level soya (milk/yoghurt/meat replacements only) you eat. It was really obvious from my food diaries that 3 days after I ate soya meat replacements (mostly vegetarian at the time) she was extra miserable with more reflux and pooed more. I only identified how bad her poos were once they improved and then she had a bad cold and they went back to how they used to be as a newborn

When I first had my baby her poo was the typical seedy yellow poo then maybe a week or 2 later her nappies went like this but she is a happy content baby the only things I have noticed is she can be rashy around her neck and she has been a bit sicky and her belly can make some funny noises but she eats well she is gaining weight and she settles well.

It looks loose but I wouldn't be worried about the colour. I've seen nappies of a similar ilk in my time.

hgddghvg · 13/02/2025 18:31

Yes they are definitely loose, they can look very watery and she has been having some poo explosions.

Given the rash, reflux and gurgly tummy I would be looking into cmpa. I think I would still start with a food diary rather than jumping to removing dairy. Maybe have a few days or less dairy followed by more dairy and see if you notice any variation. It can take 2-3 days for symptoms to appear if it is allergies

hgddghvg · 13/02/2025 19:05

Thank you everyone, I will definitely do the food diary and see how things go.

Given the skin issues and tummy I would cut dairy out from diet and see how she goes.
