My son is 6 years old, at school he is a really intelligent boy, but his behaviours are getting in the way of learning and his abilities..my son runs round school most days asking animal noises and to be honest I get called in due to him not entering back into school once he's been out at play times..sometimes he kicks out at teachers when having to be carried into school as he just runs off..he has been referred and the school Have applied for an EHCP. I do also have his brother who was diagnosed with ASD at 4 but they are completely different. Mum needs help and advice as I just don't know what to do and I'm drained. Please help and advice would be greatly appreciated. School are also hinting ODD and PDA too.

What can you do really op? You're on a waiting list for assessment, have applied for the EHC needs assessment. School clearly aren't meeting his needs and there's not much you can do about that. Send the school info on working with pda children

Are you dad?

when you say “mum needs help and advice” is she not getting any support at the minute? Has she tried GP, social services?

are you around or working? Did he attend nursery? Is this a new thing or ongoing/developing over time?

as pp says I don’t think there’s much you can do other than follow the pathways he’s on for support.

Hi no I'm mum..school is helping as much as they can he attended nursery they never picked up on anything and neither did myself or dad.. these are all things that are starting to develop in himself over the past 6 months and are progressively getting worse school have educational phycologist in every other week and they are putting in the work too aswell as ourselves. I have only just joined this evening as I do feel helpless and I'm worried that school will throw in the towel at some point due to his behaviours and his lack of unfased dangers he can put himself in while in school. We have made a GP referral aswell as school and it's just a waiting game. But I just feel a little lost as my older SEN son was so different and I just feel like myself and dad are lacking in knowledge and strategies that we did learn on our ASD courses. I have just joined this evening as just to gain more advice from other SEN parents.

The SEN teacher had just taken a course I've also shared information with them too we are working closely together with them, but until we get to see the pedestrians it's just a waiting game with everything. It's so frustrating and just feel helpless at this point. As a SEN mum already I feel a little lost to be honest.

If the school suspect odd and pda then they should also have a raft of strategies. If for some reason they don't ( it sounds like it ) then they need to get themselves some training or at least advice. I think even Twinkl has advice.
