My 12yo ds woke early a bit confused today and came in to my room saying some wee had come out onto his sheets. I just turned over in bed and said don't worry I will wash them. Only now after I have had a mug of coffee have I realised that this is likely to have been a wet dream. Is this the normal age for it to start? Have told dh he needs to chat to him tonight about how this is normal etc. DS has been a moody nightmare for weeks now - either needing loads of hugs or telling us he hates us. So hormones definitely kicking in.

I wouldn't have that chat because maybe it was just wee ?

Wendy83 · 11/02/2025 10:21

I'm pretty sure my kids learned about wet dreams in sex ed at school in year 6

Just say to him that it could have been wee or could have been a wet dream, simple

...... he's 12 pretty sure he'll know what it is and have heard of one

Lets not respond to somebody with a username like that.

I take it this is something you've never discussed before with him? Does he have any books?

Mine are younger but we have books called all about me girls and boys versions that we have been discussing for years.

Reported.

Who comes on MN to speak about their son's wet dream. Boundaries.

It's exactly what mumsnet is for - parenting concerns.

And what is wrong with the username? It's my favourite flower. FFS, some people! Do a search on past posts if you want.

Completely normal at this age. A chat with dad is a good idea. It can be a shock to suddenly realise your little boy is growing up 😁 It's not weird to talk to other parents about it and neither is your username 😵‍💫🙄

Thanks @justletmegetmyglasses

Yes normal to start at 12, and it can go on until adulthood, just part of life
