How to avoid DS’s horrific stomach bug

I’m emetophobic (fear of being sick). I haven’t been sick for many years and my main fear is of me getting sick. My 2 year old currently has a stomach bug. It’s been 22 hours and he’s been sick 12 times. Luckily he’s still hydrated and is still breastfed. We also have a 5 year old. How on earth do we all avoid this bug? Any positive stories of families who have managed to avoid it?

Me and DH are due to stay overnight in Birmingham on Saturday night after seeing James Bay. This will be the first time ever leaving the kids for the night, and typically this has happened.

Im washing hands on repeat, bleaching or clinell wiping, the washing machine has been on 4 times today, and I’m trying to avoid touching my nose or mouth. But he has been sick with me holding a bucket for him many times so clearly I’ve been exposed to it. Help!

The Dettol aerosol spray is great. I think it's saved me a couple of times. I spray everything as you can do the sofa and toys with it too. Best of luck!

Are you wearing rubber gloves? I get them out at the first sign of sick and I think they’ve saved me from many bugs. Plus the cleaning that you’re doing. Make sure that you clean door handles as well.

I hugely sympathize, I’m also emetophobic and terrified of catching bugs. 💐

If you are bf then part of the functioning of bf is that they pass you the bugs while feeding for you to provide antibodies, it's why nipple shields get a bad press because they disrupt this function of bf (however I used them and they were a lifesaver for anyone reading).

His immune system is still developing and yours is much more mature so it's not a given you'll get it. I'm emetaphobic too and we know how it spreads, are very aware of it and are very good at the hand hygiene. We've not yet passed a stomach bug between people in this house including the nursery bugs when I was still breastfeeding. Good luck!

Thanks all. Unfortunately my 5 year old has started with it tonight, bless him :(
No James Bay for us tomorrow, just our luck.
