What does your one year old drink milk out of?

Hi,

So I believe babies should gradually stop drinking milk from their bottles after the age of one.

I'm a bit confused as to what they should drink milk out of - particularly if they like to lay down and have a bottle?

My DD can drink water from an open cup but she likes to have a bottle before her naps and before bedtime in her cot and I'm not sure how that would work with milk.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

An open cup or a free-flow sippy cup and don't let her lie down with it. She can drink it while you're reading her a story before her nap or something like that.

If you don't want bottles from one then it's time to teach her she can't lie down and drink.

My son was breastfed, but from one he was drinking milk or water from the tommee topper free-flow cups, or just any open cup. Recommend the EZPZ cup if she's struggling with open cups.

@stichguru I've just read up on this. Sorry I didn't know it was unsafe. Will start getting her to drink milk upright

Thank you for the suggestions

13 month old still has milk in a bottle in the evening. It’s their one comfort and I’m not really in a rush to remove it. Older DC wasn’t fussed about milk in a bottle that point to it was never an issue with them but different personalities!

mine loved their bottles waaaaay too long
slow to transition to sippy cup and therefore had a cupboard full of different cups of all the cartoon characters trying to wean them into a cup !

My daughter is 2 in April, she still has a bottle at bedtime and naps, it's her comfort. She drinks water and weak juice from a sippy cup.

My children have never had dummies.

We used cups with straws for ages in the evenings!

Mine never had bottles, so they just drank from a normal cup. They definitely had to sit upright for that though! Also never had milk after they stopped breastfeeding at 14 months, so you don’t need to worry too much if they’re not taking huge amounts from the cup.

DD1 boobs only, never wanted other milk despite many attempts

DD2 boobs and cows milk from a free-flow sippy cup

Munchkin 360 cup and has milk at breakfast and tea time. Ditched the bottle at 12 months.

I got rid of the bottles before my DD was 1 year old. She's 1 1/2 now. As others have said, free flow sippy cup or open cup. My dd sips at it instead of drinking a whole bottle like she did before she was weaned. Don't let your DD drink whilst lying down.

All mine gradually gave up bottles between 1-2. DD2 is 18 months and she just has a bottle at bedtime. The main thing that matters is them not having a bottle filled with juice or squash they drink from throughout the day. A bottle of milk or water is fine to be honest, yes ideally they’ll be competently drinking from cups at one day past 12 months but most don’t.
