Should I get numbing cream for my 2 year old late vaccination?

Due to a number of reasons I was unable to give my child the 16 week and 12month vaccinations. They're now 2 and need then asap but I don't know how they'll take it and probably will never go to the drs again after this haha! Does anyone think it's a good idea to use numbing cream on them beforehand? Or have done?

I decided not to use the emla in the end and took lots of treats. It was not easy (FIVE needles) and she's got great vocabulary so was screaming and begging the nurse to stop "PLEASE NURSE NO HURT ME AGAIN PLEASE, MUMMY TELL HER PLEASE" but it's over after an hour of crying and haribos !! Haha! Thank you everyone for the advice.

I'm glad it's done now. So hard when they can talk! You might be in for a couple of tricky days as I assume you've have the menB and MMR that can both make them a bit poorly in the days afterwards. Lots of cuddles and treats!

Definitely easier to get them done at once. My daughter had her 12 months one individual one month apart going through it every 4 weeks was tough! I understand the reasons it was recommended for us but it wasn't easy!

@Applecrumble0110 my daughter doesn't react well to the menB so I'll ignore that but the MMR was a slight fever and a little quieter and cuddlier for a couple of days then she got a rash at day 10 which didn't bother her. All in all not too bad but we need a couple of days at her pace and not too much rushing around.

@Applecrumble0110 well DD can't walk and is screaming in pain everytime her legs move as one of her legs had 2 and she has indeed developed a fever so you were right! Lots of cuddles and nurofen for now and hoping for the best tomorrow

I give vaccines and in 25 years have never had anyone use numbing cream.
The less faffing the better tbh.

@Applecrumble0110 oh bless. Her legs will probably be a bit sore for 12-24h. Due to the injection site muscles generally aren't a big fan of sharp pointy things

The menB can make them feel a bit grotty. If worried don't hesitate to reach out for support tomorrow. My daughter screamed continuously for 3 days without pause even with max amounts of Calpol and ibuprofen. We phone our HV who quickly said that her level of crying was above what we should expect. We followed up with 3 GP appointments over the course of the afternoon and then were sent over to the hospital to see a paediatrician. They were all quite quick to get us in knowing she had had vaccines the day before.

Could I ask what cream you used? I’m trying to find one child friendly x

The pharmacist gave me emla and instructed me on how to use but I took some of the advice on here and braved it. She had 4 vaccines. It was hell for weeks and weeks and she's deathly afraid of the dr, dentist, any building that resembles a surgery and will scream like no other. The nurse was also very irritated by her crying and just essentially stabbing her witbout even warning us. Highly recommend getting a numbing cream from the pharmacy and explaining why you need it.
