How often is your 3 year old unwell?

I'm talking unwell with a virus, temperature, off food etc - a week or so to get better.
My 3 year old is constantly unwell. I know it's nursery because when I take him out to recover for a couple of weeks he's well again.
I've already posted about this before but it's an ongoing issue /battle between us whether to pull him out of nursery for a bit.
I have such bad anxiety around the whole illness thing because he gets really high temperatures and it's just such a worry. I now have a newborn to think about too and shes so vulnerable at 3 weeks old.
I'm just wondering how often your toddler gets un well?
For us it goes like this - sick for 1 week, off nursery for a week so is ok, goes back and gets sick the end of the week again. And so on. Theres no break. It's been like this since November.
In the summer he would go 3 months at least without so much as a sniffle. It's just brutal and I feel so bad on his little body. It's really affecting me mentally as I'm so anxious about the next illness. The last one was the flu and I caught it and could hardly lift my head off the pillow for a week and had a newborn to feed and a toddler.

Op, I think can be par for the course with nursery I'm afraid. You don't say how long your little one has been at nursery for but mine started at 8 months and attended three days a week until he started school and for the first couple of years of nursery he was ill literally every other week. To the point where I could actually plan around his illnesses because I knew he would be clear for a week before he was poorly again! He had so many non specific virus's, where there were no obvious symptoms other than a sky high temp that saw us in A&E more than once. I think as others say it's the luck of the draw, some kids just get ill more. On a more positive note he's now 8 and rarely ill!

My 2 year old had a cold, then a flu, then a cold and is now sniffly/wheezy again with what I can assume another cold. This is just since Decemeber. Not BF and also doesn't go to nursery and is minded by a family member so not around other kids. He was never ill his first year but once he turned 1 I feel he has been ill non stop He just seems to be prone to viruses and because he has reactive airways and is prone to temperatures, most colds take him a week to recover.

He starts nursery at 3 and I am petrified I will lose my job from all the leave I will need.

Mine is 3.5 and, since December, has had slapped cheek, a cold turned ear infection (requiring antibiotics), a hideous flu-like virus with awful temp and is now down with another nasty virus. He started nursery three mornings per week in September but was going to classes etc before then. It’s relentless! He’s been in nursery for seven mornings since the start of term.

if it’s any comfort, our GP said that it’s normal for a child of this age get around 10 upper respiratory tract infections per year, on top of d&v and all the usual childhood illnesses. He also said that they often bunch up over winter, with the warmer months being much better for illness! We’ve certainly found this as he wasn’t struck down with anything from about April to October last year…

Oh and he’s breastfed, has multivitamins and a fairly varied diet. He also gets lots of fresh air when he’s not ill. I’m sure yours will even out soon! It’s so difficult when you have a string of illnesses because it doesn’t give them a chance to recover but then at the same time, it’s good for them to get viruses etc to build their immune systems. Hope yours feels better soon!

So just had a call off nursery to say he's got a high fever ... here we go again.
I think I'll be pulling him out of nursery until the spring time because this life is not manageable right now and it's not fair on him.

@Elisabeth3468 I know it feels relentless but there’s really no point in pulling him out. If it’s not this winter, it’ll be next.

@Seaside31 but at least I won't have a newborn, she will be older ...
or I might not send him back at all.

Late to reply but my 4 year old was always ill he jad back to back tonsillitis for first 2 years of life and has had antibiotics about 9 times. But it later revealed he had low iron and we also added more protein to his diet. Since age 3 its got so much better he gets ill maybe once a year/ twice max. Maybe check for low iron which is common in breastfed babies, mine was breastfed until 2.5 too.

@Elisabeth3468 how has this winter been? I hope better?
I found your thread as I'm so fed up of constant illnesses in the winter. My youngest is 3 and I really thought it would be better this winter... But it hasn't been
