Use screentime as a reward - pros and cons?

Our old old school motivation for kids did not work. We had this sheet on a fridge where kids would mark their effort, but... kids are not overwhelmed with badges, they forget to fill it in, we keep losing track of it...
Instead, we are thinking to use screen time as a motivation. So kids would get their daily screen time only after must-do tasks are completed. And we also would give them the opportunity to earn more if they go an extra mile like helping with chores, extra reading & sports. I wonder if someone has tried something similar? How did you handle this? Any pros and cons?

We have 10 & 8 y.o,

I don't like it as it makes the screentime seem like a super special thing. Rather than a last resort, what boring people do thing.

I think this is great idea to try, as screens are not going anywhere. I would give it a try, but how to manage that?

I'd be wary. It means the screen time has an extra boost/incentive and is seen as even more appealing as they get older. I'm currently reading The Dose Effect. It's definitely not rocket science but it's eye-opening to realise the physiological effect a screen can have on you.

I understand that emphasizing screen importance is a risk, however kids crave for it and they get it daily with certain limit anyway. What I am thinking now is this limit should not be given for granted so we make a deal with the kids that duties come first and only then screens can be turned on. I wonder if someone has tried this already and if they can share the experience?

We have 10 & 8 y.o,

I think this is ireally interesting - I do get a feeling like kids age out of the sticker charts - there ought to be a new way - do they have their own phones/devices?
