Baby wheezing

Hi

My 6 month old baby has had back to back respiratory infections since end of November. Varying from rattling throat to wheezing and congested nose.I’ve taken her to the doctors three times and spoken to them twice over the phone. All have said she doesn’t have any of the red flags to be admitted to A&E, they’re just back to back infections. The last doctor I saw said gave some antibiotics for a week did nothing. I have a toddler in nursery which is why I think she keeps getting infections.

Ive got everything I can think of to help saline spray, humidifier, snot sucker, nebuiliser. The do make a slight difference but she’s super wheezy in the month. Does anyone have any additional advice on how to reduce her wheeze it’s getting me down!

Has anyone had the same thing where their baby has been ill for weeks?

thanks

Sorry no advice but I am going through similar right now! My 9 month old started nursery the beginning of this month and she has had the same cough/stuffy nose for weeks I was given antibiotics for her but no change & now the mucus is making her cough so much she is vomiting up her milk & solids. GP has been absolutely no help.. 😣

Wheeziness can be an allergy.

Does she have any symptoms of CMPA or House Dust Mite Allergy?

Solidarity, OP. I hate this time of year - DD2 (10months) was taken to our paeds a&e by ambulance at the weekend due to breathing difficulties, temp that wouldn't come down, vomiting, fast heartrate. The whole place was full of kids with viral infections. She was tested for flu, rsv and covid - all negative. I wondered if it's this HMPV thing. In any case, it's been awful.

Have you tried sitting with her in a hot, steamy shower? Also one of those calpol vapour plug ins plus snufflebabe on the chest.

Lots of HMPV about, gets slightly older babies than RSV but otherwise very similar. Pretty sure my LO had it last week - vomiting feeds the first day, miserable, snotty. Fortunately shaken it off quicker than RSV and no temp to speak of.

I am a bit surprised the GP isn't considering something more proactive for the wheezing, like an inhaler? This NHS guide for bronchiolitis says some babies get wheezy with each cold after RSV and speak to your GP if it keeps on happening www.hey.nhs.uk/patient-leaflet/bronchiolitis/

Thanks all, they’re so much going around at the moment it’s awful.

Doctor explained that inhalers are useless below 2 years old as they don’t have the correct receptors in their throat to recognise the medication so they won’t prescribe anything. We’ve got a calpol plugin. All these things take the edge off but nothing completely stops it.
