Nappy leaking overnight

Desperate need of some more tips for nappy leaks.

My 7 month baby boy has been leaking nearly consistently over night for the last 2 weeks.

In the day we use Tesco or Pampers size 5’s

Overnight it would seem he is leaking out the top of his nappy front/sideways. He seems to be straightening his legs a lot in the day and I can see the top of the nappy scrunching up and pulling away from him when he does this and I am wondering if this is the cause.

So far we have tried:
Checking everything’s pointing down!
Frills are all out
Pampers size 5 normal
Pampers size 5 pull ups
Pampers size 6 pull ups
Pampers size 5 underneath then a 6 on top

He will have a dry night so we think we have cracked it with one method then it leaks again so must just be fluke. The nappies aren’t really heavy so it’s not a capacity issue. He’s nearly 10kg but quite slender round his tummy so when he straightens out and pushes his tummy in and out it changes drastically. I think potentially linked to weaning and him straining more to poo.

We used reusable with no leaks.

So if your using disposable my suggestion would be to add a reusable cover and a reusable insert. 1-2 covers and 5 bamboo inserts would be plenty for just night use. The inserts will absorb excess

Size 5 is quite big for a 7 month old. If he's leaking almost every night I would actually try sizing down.

I would try sizing down. I think mine were in size 4 at that’s age. Try Lidl and Sainsbury’s nappies

He's fine in the day, size

So try size 4 at night.

Is he feeding overnight?

I would size down, my 2 year old is wearing size 5s. The recommended weight for those is 11kg for the nappies and 12kg for pull ups (Pampers that is). I see you've said he's fine during the day but it sounds like it's linked to his position lying down- nothing to lose but to try sizing down over night.

Sorry pressed post by mistake.

The size 5s seem fine in the day and he's been in size 5s day and night for about 6 weeks with a month of overnight with no issues. The size 4 we're leaking day and night and we're leaving red marks.

He's a 98th percentile baby for height and weight.

@Mulledjuice he has one feed at night, they're not over saturated. I'll try 4s in a different brand then. Just can't seem to understand why they'd be fine for a month overnight then not be!

I know it's a mystery we had a similar challenge

Burntt · 27/01/2025 07:55

I agree sounds line the nappies are too big.

You could change him in his sleep when you go to bed see if that helps

Purplerain1144 · 27/01/2025 08:03

Size 5 sounds big for a 7m old. I think we were in 3s or 4s at this point. I'd try sizing down, make sure vests aren't too small as they can compress on the nappy

Blu3Bell · 27/01/2025 12:51

We have this problem, only thing we've found that works (90% of the time) is carefully changing nappy while he's sleeping right before we go to bed. He's 9 months, 1 feed overnight and been in aldi size 5+ for a month or so in the day, now size 5 pants at night although we've tried many others!

Are his vests too small? We had that once and solved it when we sized up in vests

Carolwithane · 28/03/2025 20:03

Are his vests a bit snug? If they are too tight can cause leaking due to compression. Maybe try a larger size vest?

I had the same issue and this sorted it
