Reflux in 5-week old

I’m just looking for advice on how others have helped their reflux-y newborns. My 5-week old is struggling. He’s EBF on demand and will either spit up or vomit after every feed. Sometimes it’s immediate and sometimes it’ll be up to 45 mins later. Occasionally it seems like he’s just lost a whole feed, and he’s always trying to get fed, rarely sated for too long.

But he’s gaining weight really well. So far it’s been almost 2lb in 3 weeks. I took him to the GP because he’s in obvious pain and distress (after feeds, never during) and was given infant gaviscon, but that just made his vomit thicker and more frequent. Lots of wet and dirty nappies, some a bit mucousy and the odd frothy one, but nothing too unusual.

I keep him upright after feeds for ages - makes no difference. I’ve changed the position of the feeds, again no change. Nothing I do seems to make it better for him.😔

At this point I’m thinking there could be an underlying cause. Either it’s CMPA, or a lactose intolerance, possibly caused by my oversupply? I’ve read up about oversupply and a lot of those symptoms fit. My letdown does seem too fast for him because he sometimes chokes and splutters and pulls off the breast. If it is oversupply though, it’s natural because I’m not doing anything artificial to increase it.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this what you did to help your baby? I feel like I can’t work whether the issue is reflux due to an immature oesophageal sphincter, oversupply, or possible CMPA. Or all of the above! No idea how I begin to find out either!

Not exactly the same but my daughter was horrendous for reflux. Was more or less every feed but as she was gaining weight well and she had no signs of distress or discomfort we were told it’s just the way she is. It only got better when we started weaning.

Just to add they didn’t think it was an allergy either as she had none of the other signs or symptoms
