Hi! My son goes to preschool/nursery 3 days a week (full days) it use to be 4 but the fee has increased and was getting expensive even with the 30hrs free funding! I work 30 hours part time have a Wednesday off and so have decided to look after him on those days to save money. I've been doing this now for about 6 weeks and finding it so incredibly hard to keep him entertained all day, he thrives so well being around kids his age and having structured routine I feel im just not enough stimulation for him 😢 he has no siblings so i am basically the sole entertainer for the day if you like, I am always making sure we go out even if it's just a walk to the park, he loves football so I'd always bring a ball for a kickabout, we play games at home but he gets bored so easily I'm struggling so bad to last the whole day without pulling my hair out 😢 is anyone else in a similar situation and can offer any advice?

I'm a SAHM to a 4 year old boy, also an only child. He attends pre school a couple of days a week, the rest of the time it's just us.

Structure is key for us, breaking the day down into smaller components. Being out and about is much easier.

If I have things to do, he wants to be in the same room so I set him up with some toys but expect him to get on with it. He uses his imagination far more when I leave him to it.

I balance time focused on him with time for me to get things done.
He comes me with to run errands, food shop etc.

We have a rotating list of things we do out and about as just going to the park is a bit samey for both of us. So some free things (park/walk/watching trains at the station for example) and other things like national trust, farm, softplay, big shopping mall/ikea, adventure playground. Summer is easier as we can spend a whole afternoon in the garden.

At home we might bake, build a train track, colour, read, throw a soft ball, play board games.

Structure and fresh air is the key though.

Thank you @Hoochyvida this sounds like a lovely day will try and get some free/cheap plans in place so we can both get into some kind of little routine. Your right the summer lighter evenings certainly help. It's hard being out in the cold and wet but also impossible staying home with an active boy all day! Appreciate your reply x
