my son is 5 months old I've gave him some puree vegetables- sweet pots, carrots and peas and fruits- apple and prunes.

he's very interested in my food and is able sit in high chair. he can put things in his mouth - 99% the time. sometimes hits his eye... we are not perferct. I've read all the weaning online and tbh it's just confused me more.

this is my first baby and the first in my family.
I feel like he is ready to move on from puree but where do you go from there?

I've read broccoli and veg is first to try but is it as easy as sticking it infront him on a plate?
I see a lady on telly do three - mashed and puree and a chunk broccoli and just let them crack on? that's a lot?

also background - my boy might be 5months but he is a very big baby and a very hungery baby - I've read all the signs of being ready and feel he is there. he's worst than my dog at dinner time now...

any advice appreciated- own experiences.

Honestly I just gave DS a piece of broccoli. It's surprising how they just kinda... get it

Weaning was very easy for us. Literally picked it up and ate it and never looked back .!

I would say if he's ready give it a go.

"baby led weaning" it so easy, just give them food.

no purees - just a bit of chicken, a bit of broccoli and some new potatoes or whatever.

Then eating out of the house is SO EASY - no need to worry about anywhere you eat, just give them a bit of your food.

Mine wasn't quite 5 months when weaned on medical advice due to allergies. He was ready and took to it really well. All babies are different, if yours is interested and showing signs of readiness they probably are. Some babies are 6/7 months and still not that fussed.

The dog comment made me laugh - is doggo a labrador by any chance? I am imagining a hungry baby eating with the same enthusiasm as my lab (and child tbh) hahahaha

thank you 😊
are you not worried they might choke?!
is that a normal worry? 😂

"baby food" as in jars or purees wasn't even a thing until around the 1920s

What do you think babies ate in 1422? they certainly didn't have a mother who made a stew, and then bunged it in the blender and serve with a spoon... nor did they have corn based puffs ... they just go given the same food as everyone else.. and they probably introduced food a few months later later. Of course, the likes of Heinz wants you to buy their pureed sweet potato cottage pie in a jar form 6 months old... and normalise the pureeing of foods - to make you buy them for longer...
