Potty training for boys

Mums/dads/carers to toddler boys. How did you potty train them for a tinkle? To stand up or to sit down?

Please let me know pros and cons and also if you did sitting down, when did you transition to standing up and how easy was it?

Erm sit down and ours never wanted to use the potty straight onto the loo..our 3 year old takes himself now so much easier aswell

Same as PP - straight to toilet (with child seat) rather than a potty as they can go anywhere then and sitting down for a wee too

Mine stood up but he was 3 and a half and v tall.

To sit down at 2.5yrs old. To stand when needed at 3/3.5yrs old. Still discourage standing generally as really don't need the mess everywhere.... Went from a potty to a family seat on the toilet fairly quickly once he was tall enough and secure on the step stool to reach the sink.

Sitting down. Learning to potty train is a new skill and it's tough to learn - don't make things difficult for yourself and expect him to learn to aim as well! Plus, when they poop sometimes urine comes out too, and it can be difficult at first for them to determine which function they need. If they sit for everything, no problem! I think most experts recommend sitting down to learn.

3.5 and he's still sitting - I suggested to him a few months ago about standing at the toilet, but he resisted the idea. I think my nephew was well over 4 when he started standing up

Both DSs stood up. DS1 was over 3 so was using a loo from the start, DS2 was much younger but wanted to be like his Dad so stood from the get go.
I think most boys and men stand to use the loo, so it's what felt right for us.

Standing was easier for him than sitting and pointing down. Somehow he didn’t manage the angle. A year or so later we transitioned to sitting down for everything at home. He understands why and was very compliant.
