Waking your baby during the night to feed

We recently had an antenatal class in which the midwives said you should be waking your baby every 2-3 hours during the night for a feed.

We asked how long this was to continue for and they said at LEAST six months!

Can this really be true? Obviously if they wake up themselves then you feed them, but the midwives said if they didn't wake up, you had to wake them up and make them feed.

My dd was sleeping 8 hours by 6 weeks old. When we told the midwife, she quite sternly told us that this was far too long for her to go without a feed and also said we should be waking her every 2 hours for a feed. I nodded along, but not once did I even consider it 😂 if at any point she started losing weight or not putting on at a steady rate then of course i would have, but other than that I found it bonkers advice!

She's nearly 15 now and is healthy, tall and very intelligent - so the extra sleep/lack of night feeds definitely didn't do her any harm 😁

I tried to do that in the early days and was complaining to my mum about how he never slept and she looked at me as if I was bonkers and said that he won't sleep if I keep waking him up and to stop waking him up, obviously. I said and he slept 7-7 from then on.
