Special needs buggy

I am on the search for a large buggy that isn’t umbrella folding for my daughter who is a small 10 year old she has special needs, non verbal, a flight risk and I just need something I can pop her into so we can leave the house for a walk and fresh air.

I’ve spoken to occupational therapy and they’re not willing to offer me support atm because the team that decide if I can restrain my child are not operating at the minute.

I also just can’t bring myself to put down nearly a grand on a buggy sight unseen
I’m in Northern Ireland and don’t know of any local sellers.
Was hoping there would be other mumsnetters who would be able to offer some advise ?

Would a wheelchair with a lap/chest strap be an option?

Not really, she’s quite nimble and would be able to get herself out without that 5point harness.

Something like the Excel Elise? Amazon sell them if it is suitable

I have been thinking of getting one of these, but I’d prefer something with bigger wheels for forest walks. Have you used one,
I’ve had umbrella fold buggy’s in the past and I just feel like they’re so uncomfortable and would be a bumpy ride.

No, my little boy needs far more support than one of those can offer sadly. We have a Snazzi for day to day use but we use a Delichon Delta for our off roading adventures, horribly expensive but an amazing bit of kit.

I have an Advance Mobility for my tall 8 year old, there's a ton of space left. I found it on eBay! Axiom Lassen is often recommended a lot too, it's worth having a look on Facebook marketplace and eBay for "disability pushchair" and similar Smile

I have also been looking at the axiom lassen but so expensive it’s until age 10, I’m so worried that my daughter is going to have a huge growth spurt and not fit in it anymore.

I like the look of the Delichon, this is more what I’m looking for as you say very expensive
I do see one on eBay…
Something I’m going to have to think about
currently using an oyster zero gravity and she’s too big and constantly puts her feet on the ground

But thank you for the suggestions happy to hear more, think I’m a bit scared to spend more than I did on my first car just so I can go for a walk and nip to the shop without the car

Sorry i know i sound like a big Debbie downer, in the morning I’m going to ring a few places and see what they recommend size wise.
Thanks so much for the recommendations!

@Luciferthethird you don't at all. These buggies are so expensive and they have to be right for you and your child. Are there any charities you can approach to help with funding? I like our Delichon because when he outgrows his current M1 I can simply swap out the canvas seat for the M2 which means we will get a very long life out of it (possibly into adulthood, at the moment he is 4) so although expensive it will last and last. It is also ridiculously light and easy to push even over rough ground, you can add a bike kit to turn it into a bike trailer then just pop the front wheel back on so you can use it was a buggy again when you get to your destination. You can swap out the rear wheels for beach tyres too!

Good luck in you search

@Seawolves that actually sounds like it would be worth the investment thanks
