DD2 poo's too much

Put this on the health board but had no replies.

DD2 is always pooing. She was bf as a baby and would poo after each feed but she'll be 2 in July and she's still the same. A good day is about 2 a day but it's mainly about 6 a day and like today there's been over 10 a day. She isn't ill she just seems to poo a lot and as a result she is always getting a sore bum. She isn't underweight and eats a normal amount for a child her age. She is no longer bf but likes two big bottles of milk a day. She doesn't have juice only water. She has a huge varied diet but we keep it all healthy.

Do you think I should take her to the doctors or just be happy that she does poo? DD1 had to have loads of meds at her age to get her to poo but this was due to her having a lot of health problems.

Oh DD2 was 11 weeks early but she's never had any problems since she left hospital.

TIA for any advice.

Just to add her poo's are never solid, they're quite soft sometimes a bit watery but not like very loose. She's always been like this though. What she has to eat the night before will be in her nappy the next day, for example sweetcorn, peas, carrots can be clearly seen in her stools.

So is there anyone out there with any advice?

have a google for toddler diarrhoea as it maybe sounds like what your lo has. A chnage in diet can sometimes help but from what I have read they do grow out of it.

My ds had this - toddler diarrhoea it was - he did grow out of it (or perhaps he just started to use the toilet and I didn't notice!

my DS is the same, i spoke to the paediatrician and he said it is toddler diarrhoea, common in children who are very active. Nothing to worry about apparently, although it will make toilet training interesting !!!

kreamkrackers · 05/05/2008 10:53

OMG I can't believe we finally have figured out what's going on. Thankyou everyone. Will still take her to the doctor's though to make sure it is this and to see if there's anything they suggest.

I'm glad she'll grow out of it but it will make toilet training harder, I've already tried sitting her on it but she doesn't like to sit still so she up's and leaves after 10 seconds.

I've seen the hv about this who now wants stool samples as it could be a food intolerance. She seemed really concerned and I kept saying but she is really active and doesn't appear to be ill. Oh well better safe than sorry I suppose but when I told DP about it he said there's loads on his side of people with coeliac on his side of the family.

Had her height and weight done though and they're both above the 50th centile so again I feel like there's not much to worry about but we'll just have to wait and see what the results say.

funnily enough, I was just reading about toddler diarrhoea last night - had never heard of it before! But you are doing the right thing - it seems to be a diagnosis reached when everything else has been tried

Miaou · 09/05/2008 16:21

(oh and I missed the salient point out of my last post - ds1 is exactly the same and iirc one of the dds was too )

kreamkrackers, I think your DD and mine are soul mates. Mine pooed for Britain, averaging 6 a day. Hers weren't watery, just very pastey. I never bothered investigating health problems as I assumed it was just her.

Anyway, the point of my post being that now, at 2.7 she's now grown out of the multi-poos and normally only goes once or twice a day.

Hi kreamkrackers. Thnaks for this post. We are having similar probs wtih our 2.2yr old DD. It has been going on since about sept last year. Is quite normal for her to have 5-6 loose poos per day, but she is perfectly ok in herself. PIA to deal with as we use cloth but can't afford to use disposables that often really
She has been on a dairy and more recently soya free diet and this has helped but sometimes nothing can seem to curb it. Like you am not worried about her but for selfish reasons am hoping it clears up in the next few months as wondering how we will ever potty train [poo everywhere emoction!]
tThanks to OP who also said about too much fruit - I know it is obvious but DD can only seem to have it in small amounts- so much as one piece of fruit and a drink of fruit smoothie a day and all hell breaks loose
We now have a paed referral as I am completely stabbing in the dark with her diet and feel I need some professional advice.
Just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

PS she is also very much on the go all day. Usually no sleep int he day at all so I suppose little wonder she has put on no weight since Nov (not sure if I should be worried or not)
