Please reassure me - 1 year old keeps falling and hitting her head

My 1 year old runs around and often trips up, sometimes hitting her head on the carpet or on a toy. Other times I catch her before she falls but I don't always succeed. She'll cry but then calm down but I still worry. I know this must be common, but I feel like an awful mum.

Hi there, I completely understand how you're feeling! I have two kids, a boy and a girl, and while I didn’t experience this with my daughter, my son was exactly like your little one. He would fall all the time, and it was like he couldn’t fall without somehow hitting his head! It worried me so much.

I ended up buying a soft protective helmet specifically designed for toddlers who are prone to falling and hitting their heads. It gave me some peace of mind during that phase.

It’s such a common thing, so please don’t feel like an awful mum, you’re clearly doing your best! This stage will pass, but in the meantime, you’re doing great.

Thank you so much! I just get so anxious when she trips up. She wouldn't let me put a helmet on her head. She doesn't allow headbands or hats!

Completely normal and it will pass and she'll get better at balance. But it's a really tricky phase because you feel like you need to just follow them around with your arms out! By 14 months mine was much more confident at walking and I felt less worry. He still did fall occasionally but no where near as often. Just baby (toddler) proof as much as you can.
I feel the helmets dont teach toddlers to be careful when walking because they learn if they fall it doesn't hurt.
