Hi all!

Am proud to finally admit that I am now a student!
Starting the OU Openings course Y150 'understanding health' and Y163 'starting with psychology' in June. All my health stuff arrived via DHL yesterday

I am a single mum on full benefits. Have heard that I can get £250 for a new computer, as my one doesn't meet their requirements. Will these grants affect my IS and CTC at all?.

Just wanting to say hello really. Is anyone else doing the same courses as me?

Hi Good luck with the course I'm sure it will lead to bigger and better things!

I used to work for the income support dept and hated getting claims from students as the student rules were really complex. This was some time ago though and with the recent influence on being getting single parents into work they may have made them silmpler now but just in case I would check with jobcentre plus just to make sure.

Hi Caprica - nice to meet you!

My long term plans? Hmmm good question. I haven't a clue!
I just picked a couple of subjects that I've always really enjoyed studying. Might go for an 'open degree', as just really undecided. I love Biology / health, psychology, social sciences and computers. Can't see a way how to incorporate all those things into one degree.

It's just a really good feeling to have finally taken the leap and put your foot in the door.

Who knows where this will take me? How are you finding the Openings courses?

I was a little taken aback with the amount of stuff that came via DHL, all that paperwork!

Hi, I am doing a short science course with OU, SK183 Understanding Human Nutrition. I am not science minded at all but I am really enjoying it and it has been a positive experience so far. They really want to support you if you have any problems.
Sorry I don't know about funding issues as I coughed up myself. Only problem I had is making myself sit down and do it often enough, hard when you work and have 2 children, but great sense of achievement when you get stuff done. Good luck!
