15m old falling constantly- help!

Hoping ill find some advice or even just some solidarity.

15m old DS was a very colicky, refluxy and generally unhappy baby. He never crawled, most likely because of the above. He bum shuffled for a short time and went very quickly to walking and now running. I think as a result of not crawling he has not developed a good fall reflex, so when he takes a tumble he goes down head first. He has some really nasty falls, mostly just the average toddler fall but because he isn’t breaking his fall his head has taken such a battering. Yesterday he slipped on the kitchen floor, fell badly and ended up in A&E.

Has anyone been through something similar? This is my second DS, first DS never had anything like the number of bad falls so I’m a total loss

Maybe try taking him to soft plays and places where he can practice climbing and test how fast he can (or can’t) run. Then any bumps are at least minimal risk.
He probably just has some muscles to build up if he was walking quickly. My friend had a walker at 9 months who totally bypassed crawling, bumshuffling etc. it was basically rolling to pulling to standing to running! She was advised to encourage climbing as it helps to build strength in the back and core that helps balance and things like depth perception and assessing risks.

Thanks for this advice. DS can walk and run but can’t pull up to stand and I think this and skipping crawling has really had an impact. I think I will look for a physio referral. I will definitely take him to soft play, at least that would be a safe environment for him to fall!

@AtWitsEnd21 have a wee read, hopefully put your mind to rest

"The average two-year-old falls 38 times a day"

Should he wear a light stack hat?
