I’m just at a loss now 😞 nothing we’re doing is helping and I don’t know what else to do.
He is speech delayed, we presumed due to problems with his tonsils and adenoids. He had these removed over a year ago. His speech is better but still not where it should be. People struggle to understand some things he’s trying to say.

If he’s in a great mood he’s hilarious, loving, affectionate, inquisitive, cooperative. On a bad day he is grumpy, defiant and hits (albeit not a massive whack but still a ‘hit’). Now he’s regressed to biting.

I just don’t know what to do. It’s a rollercoaster, I thought he’d have grown out of it by now and understand it’s wrong.

Hes being checked again by ENT for any ongoing issues or hearing issues but apart from that why is my child hurting others 😞 he even tells us “I’m going to hit you” when he’s not getting his own way

Mine went through a biting when tired phase...he was also a thumb sucker which school was strongly dissuading, after a chat I suggested he sat at the front (no one in front to idly bite) and allow the thumb for now...it helped. I think he just got used to school though and less tired.

I've always found that any children I've looked after who are biters will often be those struggling to express themselves & therefore frustrated - often biting other children who have a toy they want or have been playing with but can't say it's mine or I want a turn. You've said he's speech delayed so I'd strongly suspect it may be this, at least in part. Easiest thing to do is teach him some basic makaton signs - easy to see on you tube or cbeebies (Mr tumble) & nursery should be able to help with this. You could also look at PEC cards, picture cards showing different things - drink, apple, teddy etc & I'd be surprised if nursery don't already have these.
