Toddler shivering at nursery

We've picked DD (almost 2 years old) up from nursery today and been told she's shivering every now and again. She's not cold, and definitely not unwell. She did this in her first few days at nursery too, which we put down to low blood sugar because she was refusing to eat much. But she's definitely now eating (proof all over her clothes 😂). My DH suspects it's overwhelm because she wasn't at nursery for 2 weeks over Christmas.

I suspect DH may be right, but wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Any other possible explanations?

So as not to drip feed, she goes 2 full days per week

I mean it’s incredibly cold today. It really is possible she could be cold.

Or she could be unwell. I’m sick and shivery at the moment. First 2 days, I didn’t have a fever or any obvious sign other than being cold. Still no cough or runny nose or anything that says ‘I’m sick!’ I’m just cold and shivery and now 3 days in I have a fever.

She doesn't do it at home? my niece used to do this and it just turned out she was weeing

I'm going to keep a closer eye and see if she does. This is an interesting theory, thank you

I'll keep an eye for illness.

She last did it in August, so not convinced it was because she was cold. But I wasn't there and haven't seen her do it.

Hope you feel better soon!

My daughter once developed an anxious blinking thing after a few weeks off nursery and going back. It vanishes after a few weeks. She didn’t ever seem worried or upset except that. So it could be something like that!

Yes, I'm fairly convinced it's just a coping mechanism for when she's a bit anxious or overwhelmed

Dogs shiver because of stress/anxiety it is a way to let off their feelings. So it doesn't seem that much of a step to think that a child who can't articulate might do the same.

I rub material when I'm stressed which also seems like a similar type of coping strategy.
