Activity ideas for a lazy 8 year old

I've noticed over the last 6 months that my 8 year old DD has started to put on weight. My other 2 children are very slim but they both move so much more than she does. Over Christmas she just wants to watch tv or play on her tablet. If I limit screen time then she's still happy to be pretty sedentary colouring, reading a book or playing a board game.
We do walk to school but I just don't think she's getting enough activity everyday. Does anyone have suggestions for getting a lazy child active? Particularly when the weather is cold and miserable and she's not keen on going to the park or out for a walk.

Does she do any activities after school? Gymnastic, judo, swimming or cubs? Any wheels like scooter, skate board or roller skates?

As a family you can go swimming, soft play, climbing, bowling.

Firstly, the way you describe her is unpleasant so I think you should address that. Even if not verbalised to her directly your disapproval may be discernible. Children are all different.

What activities do you do that you could make enjoyable for her? Swimming, cycling, active games and dancing would all be fun with you. Or sign her up to a class she fancies.

Family walk - we often take RC cars, portable swing, bikes etc into the woods
Swimming (family or lessons)
Just Dance - screen time still but active? Ditto RingFit
Trampoline in the garden?
Bike ride.

Focus on the fun aspect rather than the active aspect!

Roller skates?
Take her to a park with a hardstanding area to use them and when she gets the hang of it she can wear them on a walk with you.

She's tried several after school activities. Loves Brownies because she get to do craft. But is not keen on any sports really. If her friends are there she will walk a junior parkrun, but not in the winter when it's cold!
I've got a trampoline in the garden but she barely uses it and again a bit cold in the winter.
Bowling is a good idea thanks as it's indoors and we could do it as a family at a weekend.

It sounds like she's just not sporty op - that's ok, not all kids are. From what you describe she's happy to read, craft, do art, go to brownies. She likes walks, trampoline etc just not when it's wet and freezing cold and I can't say I blame her! It's her school holidays, she should be allowed to unwind, god knows plenty of adults are if they're off work.

If the weight really is an issue I'd just put more emphasis on family type activities - walks, trips out etc when the weather is good, indoor stuff like soft play, bowling, indoor trampoline parks. How is she with food generally?

Does she like animals? Could trips to the zoo or farms or helping with horses or something help her her out and about a bit?

Trampolining is great. Indoors, burns loads of energy. Your local leisure centre should have classes or a club. You can also do intensive courses over half term to get into it.

Nature walk followed by crafty things back at home? Collect pine cones and decorate in glitter to use on the tree next year. Collect fallen leaves to make a picture?

My daughter is also non sporty so what I've instigated with her is just that she walks everywhere. She's just not in to sport, tried so many, but we kind of settled on her just walking everywhere. At 8 she's probably still a bit too young, but as soon as my DD was starting to go in to town or other towns with her friends, say 10ish, driving her wasn't an expectation. It's about 2km in to town, same to her best friends. So now at 14, she doesn't really do many activities, but she does walk, and on a shopping day with her friends that will be over 20000 steps.

Has her iron and vitamin D been checked? My own daughter was very inactive too and it turned out she had deficiencies, which can actually make people feel more sluggish and have less energy.
have a chat with your GP and see what they say.

Will she not go on nice walks at the weekend with you? On her scooter or bike?

Horse riding if you can afford it?
