9 month old twin girls and weaning

Hi all, my twins have been weaning since 6 months (now 9) and it seems like it’s been a bit of a struggle since day one. One really likes her food the other is fussy and will only eat small amounts. I’ve recently added in a lunchtime meal and it’s sent everything into chaos. They are hardly sleeping at night, I think because of wind/upset tummies. They poo constantly (5/6 times a day) so their bums are so sore. I feel like I’m missing something because they’re really unhappy at times and scream like they’re being tortured. People keep saying about intolerances but I can’t see it being this as there’s no pattern to the screaming, no really loose poos just a lot of them. Can anyone shed some light on if this is normal or should I start doing an elimination diet. Just to add they’re breastfed so get their milk this way and I’ve been o the health visitor who was hopeless and didn’t really have any advice. Thanks x

How long have they been like this for? Could they be teething - more poo and sore bums could be because of this.

It can be tricky to spot patterns as it can take 3 days for foods to impact the gut.
If you have recently changed parts of their diet I would undo those changes for a few days and then introduce each change one by one 2-3 days apart.

Otherwise I would keep a detailed food /symptom diary and ask your hv for advice. If they suspect intolerances they can do dietician referrals to give you support. Play close attention to dairy, soya, eggs and gluten but anything can be an allergen. My daughters initial food diaries made no sense then we found she had 20 food allergies and I was eating 2-3 of her allergens every meal and it then made sense that she was always unhappy!

My daughter has delayed food allergies but teething and colds have the exact same impact on her stools. It was a tricky time to work out what was what and then at 2 she developed toddler diarrhoea so we had that in the mix too!

Teething or allergies.
