Drinking aged 13

My DHs niece drinks aged 13. Her mum thinks it's a bit of a joke and tries to half heartedly stop her. Niece is always asking for a drink, making cocktails and generally seeking out alcohol from adults eg her grandmother.

My kids are a similar age, I don't drink and DH does but I really don't want my kids eating in 1-2 years when they're 13. I hate the jokiness of it all around my In-laws. My kids don't seem to be interested but neither do I want them to think it's forbidden. I really don't want them thinking vodka cocktails are ok to drink at the age of 13.

Not sure what you can do apart from put some distance between your DC and your DN.

Gave you tried taking your DN out, just the two of you to see if she wants to talk about anything?

No, I think her mum my SIL thinks it's cool. Also she keeps saying how sociable her DD is and I think she's just trying to create a bit of a 'bad' girl image around her. She said she's hanging around with some kids she's not happy about her hanging around with but seems to make it sound really cool.

I know DN has got in trouble a couple of times at school - mainly being cheeky/talking back to teachers.
