NEED HELP - 1 year old sleep regression

My Ds turned one yesterday and for the past 4 weeks he has been a NIGHTMARE at bedtime. His bedtime has now been pushed to around 8pm from 7pm once his normal routine is done it's taking 2 and a half hours to get him to sleep, he stays down for a few hours then wakes up and literally refuses to go back to sleep unless he gets in our bed.

After that he wakes up and stays up like tonight for example for hours chatting, clapping fidgeting sitting up standing up. It's driving me crazy I feel horrendous 24/7 due to no sleep, my partner works long hours and drives long hours in the day so it's critical he gets to sleep. So I'm left knackered all the time.

Tonight for example he went to bed at 8pm back awake at 9 took an hour to get him back off, then he was up at 2:15 and it's now ten to 5 and he is still showing no signs of going back to sleep, he has had a 7 ounce bottle I've tried everything you could think of.

Is this normal? Is there any ways to help him settle? He has one nap in the day around 12 for an hour, there's no way I can drop that nap at the moment as he is so exhausted from not sleeping at night, I couldn't keep him up if I tried.

Any advice massively appreciated! xx

Is bedtime too late for him? He could be overtired which he free makes it harder for them to sleep. Also how does he fall asleep, does he self settle?

No specific help to offer, but only one nap for an hour doesn't sound like enough so he's probably overtired by 8pm. Would he not go down for a morning nap around 10am and then another around 2pm? Is he in childcare? Can you time a long walk or trip out in the car to help him catch up on some daytime sleep? I'd be sticking to 7pm bedtime too, do you have a consistent routine to get him calm and ready for bed? When he wakes in the night, is he crying or just rolling around happy?

He used to nap around 11am every day religiously but that's gone out the window now he completely fights it and ends up getting himself too upset. So it's been pushed back, he has never had two naps a day he will always refuse the second nap and it just feels like torture when your trying to encourage a nap and he is fighting it so much and getting so worked up. He isn't in childcare no, and we get out as much in the day as possible I limit screen time and try to avoid over stimulation, it's rare he wakes up really upset he is normally really happy and chatting and seemingly wide awake with no chance of getting him back off to sleep, we have stuck to the same routine and have downtime for an hour before bed after his bath x

Ignore me. You've already answered that sorry 🤦‍♀️

Are you always attempting naps in cot? Will he fall asleep in the car or buggy? When does he wake in the morning?
When he eventually falls asleep is that in the cot or do you have to hold him and transfer in?

Sending solidarity - my son is the same age and sleep has been a rocky ride. I tend to offer a nap around 9:30 (car/cot for us) if the daily activities allow. Lunch nap aim for 1ish. Working on settling him in the cot as I find if transfer he wakes up quicker

Look into sleep training... we had the same when mine was 1 too, we did the pick up put down method and after 3 days he was sleeping so much better, in his own cot!
