Children and Primary caregivers

How can UK child arrangement policies be reformed to prioritize the well-being and rights of young children, ensuring they are not separated from their primary caregiver overnight (typically mothers) during their formative years? Say before 6-8 years.
especially in cases involving any abuse, are courts inadvertently risking children's mental health and forcing mothers to remain in unsafe environments to maintain custody for stability?

What's your experience and thoughts on this?

I don’t think in most cases minimising contact with the other parent is in the best interest of the child. I think sometimes best interest of child is confused with wishes of the parent!

ideally children should be able to build secure relationships with both parents.

obviously we don’t live in an ideal world but when there is no abuse we shouldn’t be expecting minimum of the non resident parent.

There are 2 things here that need separating. Most children are fine to stay with their other parent overnight much younger than 6-8 years. Having to stay with an abusive parent is a different issue, and one that is much trickier to identify.
