Son has broken glasses

My son (4) has come back from his dads with broken glasses (apparently, they just fell apart 🤦🏼‍♀️) he has already had a replacement pair within in the last 12 months - will I need to pay for another pair or will there be another nhs voucher?

it’s been made clear to me that the cost falls to me (just like everything else - despite earning half what he does)

thank you

My son broke multiple pairs - Ive lost count how many - they were always replaced
without charge.

If they're NHS glasses / opticians they will repair or replace without a charge.
They're used to it and deal with it all the time. I took my LO's glasses in for a second repair within a few months of the first fix and was very apologetic, and they said not to worry at all and that some people are in each week.

If you didn't pay anything initially, you won't have to pay.

Under 16s get free repairs/replacements- there is no limit, though I know of one parent who had a letter from the local NHS team.

Do not worry, and do not be embarrassed. I literally say to young kids' parents 'we'll probably be seeing you a lot!'. There's some kids I see multiple times in a month. Sometimes even in a week!

Boots do an insurance that is about £15 for the year. The vouchers only cover the basic frame so if your child has some more expensive frames they are covered for repair or replacement. Been well worth it for my football playing rambunctious lad

Thank you all so much! It’s very reassuring 🥹

I work as an optical assistant. As long as they're his NHS pair they will be replaced free of charge.

Unless they are those special short-sightedness slowing lenses that cost £225 as they won’t replace them for free :( I asked when we got DD hers 2 weeks ago! So immediately got her some of those straps
