my ds 2.7 appears to be racist!!! last week a delivery man had to collect a broken camcorder and i had told ds that postman pat's freind was gonna collect it etc so delivery man collects said camcorder ds says thankyou and bye bye and when i closed the door he turns to me and says 'bowww black man] 'boww' is his way of saying not nice so i said he was anice postman what was wrong with him to which he answered no boww. anyway today they have brought camcorder back and i had told him it was coming and when the doorbell went he again said boww black postman. why does he do this me and dh are not racist at all ,we have never been derogatoray about skin colour in fact dh is quite dark as he is italian ,ds watches tv and has seen black people and has never commented. i am so worried and embarresed and don't know where it's come fom and how to deal with it he is 2 what do i do???????

i get that he is 2 and that 2 year olds are not racist i realise that it is because its new to him but how do i stop him pointing at black people and saying boww i have told him that some people are differrent colours but as said he is 2 i had to do a quick distraction in tesco yesterday cos there was a little boy in there who was balck .... i dunno maybe i feel bad cos i don't want it to be a reflection on us

that isn;t racist.....that is a 2yr old realising that people have different skin and he is not overly sure of it as yet.

my DD1, when she was just over 2yo, met one of my aunts and uncles for the first time (in her memory). now my aunt is white, my uncle is black.....the shock in DD1 at that point was immense....she had never seen a black man before.....or even anyone black in fact!

all she kept saying was "don' like that brown boy, don' like that brown boy".

it was all so new for her tho, and she was aware that he was 'different' to her.

took about an hour and she was hugging him and loving him and telling him he was "'peshal'" (special).

she is not racist in the least now....she is 14, has many friends of all colours and nationalities.....she was just shocked at that point to meet someone that was different....as all toddlers are when faced with something new that they don;t understand
