Would you push the potty issue?

My DD is 2.7 and appears to be physiologically ready to train - she can pull her trousers and pants up and down, she does her wee en masse, so to speak, rather than lots of small wees throughout the day, etc. BUT, she says she doesn't like the potty and gets (apparently) really upset when I suggest sitting on it. We have a couple of different potties and the reaction is the same to all of them.

She is very verbal and I have a slight suspicion I might be being taken for a ride. My question, really, is this, would you push the issue and go cold turkey on nappies, or leave it for a while?

Any tips very gratefully received!

If you push the potty issue it might make her go back over you'll probably end up with lots of puddles all over the floor. What I did when my son was training was to have his potty in the sitting room with a cuddley toy sitting on it! He got used to seeing potty & wasn't scared of it.When we were in the house i'd have him in undies & he didnt like the wet feeling when he didnt use the potty. I didnt find pull ups any good as they took the wetness away from the skin so toddlers don't get the sensation of being wet. I only used pull ups at night when I was getting him dry during the night. My son wouldn't use potty for poo's though & my health visitor said to try sitting him on the toilet this eventually worked but he was 3.4mths by the time he was clean & dry. I had to put his nappies in the toilet so when he asked for poo he had to go to toilet to get nappy eventually he started associating the toilet with having a poo.

DD's a couple of months older and she is just the same - won't sit on the loo at all, will sit on the potty but won't do anything on it, nothing at all. We've had a couple of half-arsed attempts at pants but she's just not going for it. She is perfectly aware and perfectly capable, but she doesn't want to .

I'm waiting until half term when the weather is (hopefully) better and I don't have school run/host of activities and I'm going to go cold turkey then I think.

Thanks for the tips Analsexann ( great name!) I will definitely try some of them.

MrsFlowerpot, they're so annoying aren't they. I know if my DD wanted to be trained she'd just do it instantly. We were going to start this weekend, but half term might be better. Good luck!

I'd bypass the potty altogether and get her using the toilet.

I had exactly this with my ds (now just 3), and I would say the correct advice is to leave it. They are not ready if they are saying they hate the potty, even if you might suspect they could be physically ready IYSWIM.

We still haven't cracked potty training, but we have made a start, and that's only possible because he wants to sit on it now. It helps that he gets a sticker for a wee and a chocolate button for a poo (shameless bribery).

Thanks, I think we might skip the potty, although I think she'd respond very well to your suggestion Justabout.

Are there people you can pay to potty train your children?!
