9 week old sudden difficulty with latch

My EBF 9 week old DS has suddenly developed an issue with his latch. Every time he swallows the seal seems to break and there's a clicking sound and he's guzzling lots of air during feeds. This results in a combination of some or all of tummy ache/ wind/projectile vomiting. I've tried adjusting the latch and changing positions (to rugby ball hold and koala) but nothing makes a difference. I'm finding it quite stressful but at a loss of what I can do. One of my nipples is also in a lot of pain where it hasn't been before. He's still doing loads of wet and dirty nappies so don't think it's impacting his weight. Is this something he will just grow out of? Any experience and advice appreciated!

Clicking and wind could be symptoms of Tongue Tie. I'd have a read of this article from Milk Matters Flowers

With my dd this happened a couple of times just when I thought I had it nailed went back to rugby ball hold or lying down to feed for a few days and she sorted herself out fine!

It’s probably a combination of things, get the docs to check for tongue tie, thrush and silent reflux, I would imagine it is at least one of those especially if your nipple is sore………

GP is unlikely to know what to look for regarding Tongue Tie unfortunately.

If the OP has read the info in my previous post and thinks it might be TT I agree about seeing the GP but she might also want to speak to a Tongue Tie Practitioner Smile

If a normal doctor cannot see the tongue tied there are serious problems in your surgery……….

I'm not the only one though. I was told my MWs, HVs and GPs that DS didn't have TT only to realise later that he did and MN is full of similar stories on the feeding board.

My 11 month old bf DD went through this, she stopped doing it just as suddenly as she started, no tongue tie etc i think it was just a change in flow and she eventually got used to it xx

We went through phases even after TT correction where DS would click for a bit. I tend to agree with the person who said it may be a change in flow they're adjusting too. I thought TT would have shown up before 9 weeks but it might be worth ruling it out.
