Help with reusables

My little boy is nearly 3 and only has a nappy on in the night and I'm sick of having to buy dispoables and I'm thinking maybe reusable could be better. Some mornings he wakes up dry and some he is wet so I know that he is not ready to be nappyless yet but I grudge paying for disposables only to chuck them in the bin when they are dry!!

Does anyone know what would be the best type/size etc. he is in size 4+ disposables.

Opps sorry quite a long post

Any advice is grately recieved.

At night I use Tots bots size 3 nappies on DS1 (also nearly 3). I think he would be a size 5 in disposables - well he was sent home from nursery in one that size recently anyway (I have no idea why they did that).

I'm thinking maybe a pocket type nappy like Minki or something might suit you better though?

or these pocket bots - you can choose your own colours and patterns and she will make to your DCs measurements if you prefer. They are fab nappies. No trouble to look after as they go on easily and wash very well - take no time to dry at all. You could just bung it in with your normal wash.

You would need an insert for any pocket nappy - you could try microfibre dishcloths (3 for 89p in Tesco). If you're new to cloth don't be horrified at the suggesstion - they are very absorbant, thin fitting and quick to dry.

Alternatively you could go for a standard training pant like boots sell - if you think they might not hold enough overnight then you could boost with the microfibre cloth again - I wouldn't use more than one in a pair of training pants or they might leak though.

Thanks both for your replies.

How many would you say I would need and would I need just 1 micro cloth to go into it?

Oh BBM I was hoping to run into you ...

I have been looking at the pocket bots for DS1 (we are trying to potty train with slow progress) - I noticed you mention using them. Would you recommend them? Have you tried the pants?

Washersaurus · 01/05/2008 23:01

Arransmummy - I would start with trying 3 of those tesco cloths that BBM mentioned, until you work out how much/little absorbancy is required (when it is required)

BigBadMouse · 02/05/2008 09:20

Washersaurus - yes I'd recommend giving them a go. They were the best pockets by far for us and we tried Minki, Fuzzis, Wonderoos (newer ones), Mommy's Touch and I few more I can't remember right now. Of course it is all down to shape of the DC as to how well they will suit but these remained bomb-proof for us even when DD went through a brief, but cute, chubby leg phase. She has changed them a fair bit since the V1 and the design is fantastic on the current version - I'm not sure about the different types of fabric she uses though as she only started doing that just after i bought my last batch. Might be best to ask her what might suit you best if you're unsure - she's very helpful.

I haven't tried the training pants yet though - she didn't do them last time I was potty training so we used Bambino Mio ones - not much though as DD had it cracked straight away .

Thanks BBM - I might just give them a try. DS1 is only about 50/50 successful with his potty at the moment and our nippa nappies aren't really much good for pulling up and down for pottying...have tried normal pants over the course of a week, but the constant clothes changing was too much - we ran out of clothes in one afternoon
