Do your kids go to local school and always lived with you and your dad?

Possibly to stop people who previously lived somewhere else to then move into their parents council property and try to then use this to claim rights to the property.

This is the thing I've lived in this house alll my life with my mum and dad my mum passed away in 2018 but my mum was pregnant with me
When they moved into the house but the housing said my name isn't on the list to live here I really don't know how I've never moved out or anything I've been here since I was born

I suspect if your put yourself down on the house, you may not be eligible to bid for other houses/as high on the list.

Why not just tell them what school your kids go too? Just ask them why they need to know the info etc. X

Yea the council said if I put my name down as a household member if would interfere with the bidding meaning I probably won't be able to bid they wanted to know where the kids went to school I guess to prove there going to school local but that was to add them and me to the house I just don't get why I wasn't on the house to begin with as I was born here

I'm assuming there was a typo on your previous post, unless I'm reading it wrong it seems to say your mum passed away in 2018 and was pregnant with you at the time? That makes you 7 years old?
You won't be registered at the house with the council because there was no reason for you to be. I'm a council tenant, the tenancy is in my name. My children have lived here all their lives, they're not "registered" because the only way to do that is to go on the tenancy. They are both on the electoral roll so registered to vote at this address, but that's entirely different to housing.

Mummyof4children · 14/01/2025 21:43

No what I meant is I was born in 1993 my mum was pregnant with me when my parents moved in to the property my mum passed away in 2018 I'm 31 years old with 4 kids the housing rang to say mine and my kids where not on the household to live here

OP posts:
Bearhunt468 · 14/01/2025 21:45

I think you have to be added onto a tenancy and then that means you pay rent to the council too so maybe that's why your dad never added you on. Whereas my friends got added once they turned 18 and then they had to pay rent as well as their mum paying.

Mummyof4children · 14/01/2025 21:45

To your comment about your children are they not on the household to live at the address ? As the housing said to me to fill out a household member form so we can be added but I rang the council and they said if I was to do that I wouldn't be able to bid for a property of my own due to being on a household of u get what I mean

That's the thing I pay what my dad doesn't as he gets housing benefits but I'm a non dependent and I pay the deductions that's what I'm not getting how can I be on the housing benefit and council tax if I'm not even registered at the address it's not making any sense in my head

I don’t know if it’s practical or possible but if it is I think it’s better that you just stay where you are and put yourself down for the house you’re living in now with your parents as in my experience the council could put you anywhere in any awful place

If the house belongs to your parents and you have four children doesn’t that technically make you homeless in which case you should be on the homeless housing list and be a priority ?

Mummyof4children · 14/01/2025 21:52

I think what has upset me I have brothers that where all on the list to live here but I was obviously never added I don't know why I don't get why I pay rent if my name isn't on the household members

I know I'm trying to make sense of it all how can I be on the housing benefit and council tax letters and not be on the household member

It says on the letter non dependent deduction which is me what I pay my dad to stay here but why when the housing say my name isn't even no where to be seen

Housing benefit know about you as you are an adult and therefore reduce ur dads HB entitlement. same as council tax. You can be any adult, you don’t have to be on the tenancy, just living in the house, yr dad completes the HB form to state this. That form doesn’t go to the tenancy team, it goes to HB/Ctax team.

you only go on the tenancy if joint tenant, you can be added as family/household on the councils recording system. That’s not the same as tenant.

if you are adequately housed (ie enough rooms, suitable accommodation), then you will have no priority. If dad has large property and you and kids move out, will he be under occupying and have to pay bedroom tax?

Ilovethewild · 14/01/2025 22:05

It’s up to the tenant to provide the information about their household details

Yes but surely if he tells them that me and the kids are living here then the housing should know that no?

The the house is only a 3 bedroom and I have a room my 4 kids all share a room and my dad has a room it's overcrowded I won't put my name down on this house as I want my own with my kids

So…
you are saying ur dad told his housing officer that you and kids live there but they don’t have you on the household information but also you don’t want to be on the household information as you want to move. If he only told HB or CTax then no the housing officer won’t know.

dont worry then, just apply citing overcrowding. You don’t have to be on the household for that.

obs depending on where u are, what your housing need is and any priority, you could be offered temp accommodation or private rented. Some areas have less demand, lower waiting lists, and you might get council property.

As my brothers where on the household I'm sure I should have been but found out I'm not yea I want my own house I rang the council told them my situation and they said because I have a roof over my head I just need to keep biding

Your parents should have told the housing dept that you and your children were living in the house. You don't need to be put on the tenancy to be listed as a household member. He needs to do that now and it doesn't change the fact you are overcrowded.

The housing dept is different from housing benefit/ council tax departments.

My point is I've been in this house since I've been born in on the elec roll also my birth certificate says this address I dunno where someone has messed up but the council has said if I do put my name as a household member that could mess up the bidding
